I love Shiva. Something about creation through destruction really appeals to my darker nature...

The love between Shiva and Parvati is something extraordinary, as well. Two very independent and potent powers that come together to form an intense love.

And checking Wikipedia, (for the mythology thing, because learning is what I loves me to do...) I discover the character on Survivor is named Parvati Shallow, which is just too much fun...

Nice one. I can't say I've ever watcher Survivor, but unlike learning about Parvati the goddess, I don't know if I'm that keen to learn more.
If you've heard of Tantra, Shiva and Parvati are the essential male and female energies. Parvati is also associated with Durga, the original mother goddess, riding around on a tiger, kicking arse and taking names. She's a great role model for female strength. I'm sure Wikipedia expresses that in a less coloquial fashion, though!

Oh yeah. Wikipedia listed about 25 different names with about twice as many letters each as being aspects and I eventually just tuned out. Will have to get something out of the library sometime soon. Because unlike most of these morons I see around here, I use the library as something other than just somewhere to get on the internet...

I'm not terribly familiar with Hindu mythology, outside the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva) at the center of it all and the idea of the Dharma as a communal soul. My experience with Parvati begins and ends with the character from Survivor.
Her name always made me think of "poverty," which was ironic to me, because she was morally bankrupt.
