I miss those summers when I was younger.
I didn't worry about my body.
Was I fat or skinny, or somewhere in between?
I didn't know, and I didn't care.
I rode my bike for hours on end,
by myself or with a friend,
because it was fun,
because it felt good,
because it was something to do,
not because it was exercise.
I wore a tankini bathing suit when I went swimming,
not because I thought I was too fat to wear a bikini,
but because my mom felt I was too young to wear a bikini.
I didn't "lay out" to get a tan;
I got tan just from being outside,
and I didn't care about tan lines.
I wore clothes that I was comfortable in,
not clothes that I thought made me look sexy.
I was happy because I was beautiful.
I was beautiful because I was happy.
