To keep geologist Charles Dart (uplifted chimpanzee) happy, the group on the natives islands kept tending the robot probe exploring the underground tunnel in shifts.

It was during the dolphin linguist/anthropologist Sah'ot's turn while he was watching telemetry on his sled, when he noticed that the background static noise picked up by the robot, which anyone else would have dismissed as a seismic anomaly, had some structure. Upon a more careful listening, Sah'ot recognized it as dolphin singing! (No, not Russian national anthem, and Sah'ot is not going to take 'Jonesy' as a nickname. May be he did attend Caltech.)
