Well, not quite.Β Much of the older sci-fi that George drew from stands up well, if you can get past the heavy dating: Metropolis, Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, Forbidden Planet...Β Β
When Star Wars came out, it was more than just good sci-fi.Β The story-telling is rather formulaic, and George in the DVD commentaries endlessly invokes all theΒ plot points and characters from classic fairy-tales he used.Β It was an upside-your-head space-opera that had stunning special effects invented for the film, that nobody had ever seen before. And of course it reinvented sound effects design. And it was imagery like that which your submission invokes, that keeps it fresh forty years later.
