Leaving the Southern plains of her birth, Blithe round with her second foal, emersed herself under the canopy of trees. At the mare’s flank was her previous spring’s foal, Asher. The dark colt churned up the dirt under-hoof bored as he followed his dam.
Mother and son had been on their own since leaving the sire of the foal she carried. The mare was a nomad wandering from place to place letting the winds guide her. Every once in a while she’d think she'd found somewhere to stay that’s how her two foals were conceived. Blithe would become interested in a stallion, think she loved him, and then hear the wind call her elsewhere. Only Asher’s father had dared to travel with the lone mare, and he died defending her and his son.
“When will we stop?” Asher spoke after hours traveling in silence.
“Soon,” Blithe responded turning her head to look at her colt, “I must find somewhere safe to welcome your new brother.”
“We should have just stayed with the last herd we found.” The colt kicked up a pebble, “It had lots of foals there.”
“And mares that didn’t trust outsiders,” the mare muttered under her breath before adding aloud, “The wind called us to leave.”
“How come I’ve never heard the wind then?” Asher grumbled.
“It’s not something you hear. It’s something you feel,” the mare stopped and nosed her son in the chest, “in here.”
Asher looked at his mother like she’d grown a second head.
“You’ll understand one day.” Blithe chuckled.

After a few more days of travel, Blithe found an area to have her second foal. The newborn colt had a similar coloring to his dam, and a cross marking at his throat like his sire.
“What’s wrong with him?” questioned Asher as her approached his brother.
“Nothing is wrong with him, Asher.” Blithe responded looking over the newborn.
“Why’s his fur all shiny?” Asher asked noticing how the light coming through the thin canopy caught on his brother’s body.
“He’s been blessed,” Blithe explained in awe of her new foal, “He’ll have a good life and those around him will know nothing but happiness and good fortune.”
    “How do you know?”
“My grandmare told me stories of horses who shined like light when I was your age. She said it was a blessing to know one, and now,” she looked Asher in the eye her tone growing serious, “we must protect him becasue there are those out there that would wish to harm him for his gifts. You’re his brother. Never leave his side.”
“Yes... yes mother,” the colt stammered taken back by the gravity of his mother’s tone.

Must protect!!!

If they’re all looking for a herd to protect them, Black-Hallow could provide that! Even if they just hang around. <3
