History

Their origins are still a mystery, but one theory is that at first they were just Zebras with more hair that usual. Later on, Roman soldiers stationed in Africa were thought to bring them back to Rome were they were then breed to regular horses, thus creating the foundations of the Equivir.

The first real proof of their existence occurs during the later part of the Roman Empire were they gained more and more popularity. After the Roman Empire's decline, Nomadic tribes from Asia came into contact with the herds of Equivirs in Rome and Greece. One tribe in particular became to most famous for them. .

Today, with Fox Mill EC as their sole caretakers Equivirs are living in an Equivir sanctuary where they can live wild and free. Every once and a while to maintain a healthy population Fox Mill rounds up some of the Equivirs and auctions them off. All Equivirs auctioned off has little to no human contact before they are sold to new homes. So they do need training. Fox Mill also has a breeding program to help create the hard stripe patterns to breed for like the Sunburst and Dual stripe. Another part of their program is creating new and interesting stripe patterns such as the Lynx Point.

Why Zebra is both a Body and Color Striping

Zebra is the original striping. It comes from the early Romans who found the Equivirs. Zebra was one of the first types they found and as they breed the zebras into the Equivir when stripes were just darker than the body and in a zebra-like fashion they where just called Zebra stripes.

Stripe Rarity

Common

- Zebra

Uncommon

- Thin Stripe
- Ianvir
- Virian
- Short Stripe
- Restricted Short Stripe
- Lynx Point

Rare

- Artist's Delight
- Sunburst
- Dual Stripe
- False Stripe

Body Types

Each body type comes with its own common stripe patterns that still follow the stripe rarity rules. Ex. Artist's Delight is most commonly found in the Classic Type, but it is still rare even for Classic Types.

Classic Type- The original Equivir died out in the early 20th century as cars and such started taking the place of traditional pack animals. The classic type was recreated by using the remaining two types and breeding them back to their closest living zebra relatives. The classic type brings the Equivir back to their roots. These Equivirs look closely like their Zebra relatives. They have a straighter back and short legs making most quite unsuitable for riding. They are pack animals and quite strong. They also have a very strong Zebra-like personality. They are stubborn and easily frightened.

Common Stripe Types

Breeding
Genetics

nSbt= Sunburst (no homozygous allowed)
AdAd or nAd = Artist’s Delight
ZsZs = Zebra 9always homozygous)
SsSs or nSs = Short Stripe
RsRs or nRs = Restricted Short Stripe
VvVv or nVv = Virian
IiIi or nIi = Ianvir
TsTs or nTs = Thin Stripe
FlsFls or nFls = False Stripe
LxLx or nLx = Lynx Point

Dual stripe is not a gene, but a combo of above color genes

You can Punnett Square the stripe genes when breeding.

When working with the same stripe type. For example a False Stripe:

FlsFls +FlsFls = FlsFls
FlsFls + nFls = FlsFls or nFls
nFls + nFls = nFls (slight chance of FlsFls)

All others work the same

When working with different stripe types. For example an Artist’s
Delight and Thin Stripe

AdAd + TsTs = nAd/nTs
AdAd + nTs = A heterozygous Artist's Delight (nAd) and a chance of heterzygous Thin Stripe (nTs)

Cross-Breeding

As Equivirs are a unique horse breed, cross bred individuals will have a few interesting traits. Only Equivirs with homozygous stripe patterns may pass those genes on to offspring due to the fact that normal horse breeds don't have the genes to support the stripes. Most cross-breds will continue to sport the connected mane and tail, but I will look more like a normal horse's with each passing generation.

Uses

Equvirs have very good stamina and jumping ability. The like rough courses, so they are most suited for Cross County, Trail, Endurance, and many western disciplines. Some Equivirs have been known to do well in Steeplechase. Any Equivir can be trained to do any discipline. Please shave the hair where the saddle goes. They get highly irritated if you don't.

Oh! I remeber looking at them before. I though they were cool looking. I'd love to do a trade.

I kind of want a mare based off a Tasmanian Masked Owl, but I'm not sure how equal the trade is.

CrestedCreativity In reply to PyralDesign [2014-03-10 05:38:08 +0000 UTC]

Ok, so a Tasmanian Masked Owl mare would be 42
You have 28 left to get to 70 to make the trade of equal value.
At the moment, there is a reclaim sale taking place in the group. There is a Raptorre up for exactly 28, if you're interested.
This is them - fav.me/d70qgqu
If you don't particularly love the design, then I can always make a suitable import of the same value.

I'll have your Equivir design up soon.

Awesome!
The Raptorre is on hold for you (just so the time limit doesn't start yet ^^) and I'll get to work on your Tazzie mare a.s.a.p. I'll be able to start on her Thursday afternoon; tomorrow I'm busy, and will have to finish homework too.

CrestedCreativity In reply to PyralDesign [2014-03-13 06:51:39 +0000 UTC]

Thankyou! He's gorgeous!

Just a side-note, your mare might take a while.. >I I've encountered some...'hiccups' in the way I wanted to carry this out (drawing the design, I mean).
First, the pc just stops working after I try to start an application; second, this laptop doesn't have any drawing program; third, my laptop that I used to do EVERYTHING on is getting fixed and will be "out of action" for a while. Unless I can figure out how to download Adobe Creative Suite 6, then it's going to be bleugh for a while x-x

Have fun with them!
