Description
This is artwork for encounter #3 of the encounter short stories for my series Blackhaven Institution which is written below. The day Blackhaven Institution a house for orphaned children and unwanted infants burned to the ground mysteriously one day, the souls of those trapped inside became corrupted by an evil that warped them into demons that dwell in an alternate Blackhaven Institution. There they await those who are dragged into this alternate world by an unknown evil. The encounter with this nightmare “Nightmare Chewer” takes place in the "Nursery Wing" as follows:Its a Friday night on the streets of Dracove city. Its northern section being the center for young adults to frolic, mingle, and party in many of city's night clubs and bars. Jerome Wainwright leaves his apartment at 9:00pm to meet up with his friend Derek Reyes, a longtime friend who is little quirky and doesn't have much luck with the ladies. Derek leaves his apartment at 9:00pm as well confident he can possibly get lucky tonight as Jerome is known to be a ladies man and a great wing man. They plan to hit up a popular new club called the Green Flamingo, a hip new spot that seems to draw in crowds, especially their targets the young single ladies. The night seems to be going well for Jerome and Derek as they drink and mingle around at the Green Flamingo. Jerome even introduces Derek to a few attractive lady friends of his, which renders Derek speechless . In the middle of the introductions Derek embarrassingly feels an intense urge to pee and rushes into the bathroom leaving Jerome and the girls behind. Taking a leak in the bathroom he begins to hear some odd noises coming from a stall next to him. Derek hears what sounds like gurgling, something being chewed and sucked on. Derek can't help but smirk thinking to himself that someones getting lucky, hoping he can be in the same position maybe later tonight. That smirk soon turns to a look of confusion as a thick black liquid oozes from the stall and the lights begin flicker. Derek begins to feel woozy as he grasps his stomach, unsure why as he can remember taking only a few sips of liquor. He turns to the bathroom mirror to wash is hand and face quickly before he leaves. Turning the faucet on he splashes his face unknowingly with the black liquid now spewing from the faucet, it stings his skin with contact. The lights go out all around him and a pair of bright glowing eyes appears in the mirror as Derek tries to wash off his face. Derek barges out of the bathroom with an intense headache and leaves the club, leaving Jerome behind. Back at his apartment Derek stumbles into bed just barely making it home in tact. Walking through the door all of the sudden he begins to feel much better, unsure of what happened before. He notices a bunch of missed calls on his phone from Jerome and freaks out realizing he left without notice. Derek swiftly grabs and the phone and begins to dial Jerome's number but half way through he is hit with a sudden fatigue, dropping the phone and collapsing onto the ground...
Slowly Opening his eyes Derek finds himself in a cramped position, crammed into a decrepit crib. Derek works himself out of the child size crib to find himself in a dimly lit colorless room littered with cribs and debris. Looking around Derek cannot believe what catches his eye. He notices Jerome passed out in another crib on the farside of the room covered by a dirty sheet. Derek can't help but chuckle at the sight, tapping Jerome on his shoulder he springs awake knocking over the crib. Jerome is surprised and shock to be staring at Derek from the floor. They both stare at each other for a moment and begin arguing, confused to where they are and what the hell is going on. After things calmed down Derek learns Jerome had a twisted vision of his own at the club before feeling sick and heading out to rest in his car. Jerome was convinced their drinks were laced as he describes witness the heads of the girls he was with detach and fall off releasing a black smoke. They are both highly disturbed sharing each others experiences and soon begin to feel very uneasy and very suspicious of their surroundings. They quickly come to the conclusion it would be best to start looking for a way out. Leaving the room they find themselves in the long dark hallway inside a ruinous building, surrounded by filthy and decaying walls. The ambiance, something out of a horror movie puts both Jerome and Derek on edge. As Derek examines the surroundings following from behind Jerome, he says “Hey, this sort of reminds me of an orphanage, have you ever heard of Blackhaven Institution...?” Jerome responds back with a “Hell no!”. Before Derek is able to say anything more they both notices a strange ghostly and very unnatural looking figure stepping from one room into another moaning at a continuous tone. They both look at each other with fright riddled on their faces and begin to smell a strong scent of something burning. They cover their noses from the stench and decide to turn around heading in the opposite direction and retracing there steps.
They both walk in disbelief, Derek thinks to himself this is just some sort of nightmare while Jerome thinks they are being pranked on some sort of tv show. Jerome laughs it off telling Derek he believes they have been set up on the popular hidden camera show Scare Station, in which guests are lured and trapped in a haunted house filled with scary gags and tests. Derek pauses in front of a small room with a single window and crib. Jerome notices a headless teddy bear in the center of the crib, thinking its a trap from the tv show he pushes Derek into the room, the door slamming behind. Derek panics and bangs on the door, through the little window on the door peering into Jeromes laughing face. Derek takes a few steps back in anticipation of something to happen. Jerome soon notices something strange beginning to form from behind Derek coming from underneath the crib. Jerome gasps in excitement until the room goes black. Jerome knocks on the door curious to what maybe happening to Derek, faintly hearing shouting coming from inside. Jeromes smile soon fades as the screaming become concerning and desperate, suddenly stopping. The door slowly opens itself in front of Jerome and a dim light returns to the inside. Jerome standing their, watches in true terror as a horrific being with the face of an infant is grabbing Derek by the shoulders, chewing and slobbering on his head. Derek's agonizing cries are muffled in the monsters mouth as a black corrosive liquid drips down his neck, his body convulsing and shuttering on its knees. This shocking scene seems all to real to Jerome as soon Derek's lifeless and now headless body drops to the floor. At that moment Jerome realizes something is seriously wrong. Emotionally disturbed from what he has seen he struggles to compose himself as the demon then vanishes. Touching Dereks lifeless corpse he fully realizes this was not some sort of special effect or prop. Screaming Jerome exits the room blindly running down the hallway, deeper into Blackhaven Institution..... Derek's soul sinking into the depths of the alternate Blackhaven Institution.

I would seriously love to work with you ♥w♥ if you'd be willing of course. I've stagnated on my silent hill story but these drawings are getting the old horror juices going again...if you wanted, I could provide writings for you in return for some monster designs? I feel like the ones I've made would be perfectly compatible with your style and imagination *-* and I'm so terrible at designing them. I mean don't feel pressured -at all- ♥ it's just a proposal and it's totally fine if you say no ^_^

Yeah, they were my main influence. In most of them there is but it is especially for the orphans more than the infants.

I love surreal horror, man. This monster and all the others in the Blackhaven series all seriously give off a strong Silent Hill/Jacob's Ladder vibe. Is there any kind of symbolism to it all?

The glowing eyes really add to the horror. The only suggestion I would give to this piece is to state that the creature makes baby like cries and coos to add that special touch to send chills down the reader's spine.

Yeah its strange they look alright on here but bothered me on the updated version which isn't to much different. True but I did do that for alot of the other baby based demons already and this guys more of a sneaky little bugger lol wouldn't want him to make to much racket but it'll definitely have a disturbingly distinct noise of its own.

Good point; I did not think of that.
I have an idea for a future encounter you may wish to consider. I will note you.

Funny thing is, after watching Siren (interesting horror game) and taking a self study of the molestable properties of the human mind and body (and other such things), your type of artwork becomes a interest activity.

My only advice is to try and branch out a little more from child based monsters and try and give a broader picture (actually drawn) to the Institution (nurses or demented children).

Yeah I do plan on it and I did one nurse but shes become a really messed up monster, all of the children and staff here are corrupted and warped but there are specters and anomalies I haven't had a chance to draw, and there will be some demented children to come actually I'm working on one for the next encounter story but it'll be hard to tell since there won't be much backstory till the profile

So far your things line up with The Suffering and Silent Hill in a well blended compilation. If I could draw human figures, I would be able to draw my Pacifier (which is a being that looks like a SS trooper with a greatcoat, visor cap without the totenkampf or eagle holding the swastika and in its place another insignia of allegiance, combat boots, leather gloves and a gas mask). The catch is that is makes no sound (cannot be heard walking regardless of equipment or medal decorations, they don't talk and are rather passive) unless it fires (say a civilian screaming is suddenly silenced by gunfire) and when they lose their anchor to their clothing they dissipate into black smog. They are supposed to represent that evidence of hates never truly fades and always finds a calling.
The other would be a creature made from black slaves that have the build of gorillas or baboons and speak in quotes like "You isn't my massa!" and would normally be found in packs that are easily found by the sound of their soul music, cracking jokes, or wandering around a general area. They are easy to spot given the fact they wear is the typical slave attire or raggish work clothes or clothing of mediocre quality (which would've likely been a luxury). Their main source of aggression is racially fueled and as such they'd have a lust for consuming "the flesh of the white man" and leaving their skinned bodies (imagine Predator for thought) alone to testament that everybody is the same and to take revenge on what they prided themselves heavily in (skin color).
