Cybernetic Implants are property of the Lin Kuei, so if you are Automated you are relieved of your free will and become property of the Lin Kuei.

I have thought (to much) about it since people were asking me to do a cyber Ermac. I usually say something about the cybernetic casing allowing him to store more souls and therefore become more powerful..
I would agree Ermac probably couldn't be automated, but on that note neither could a man made of smoke, or a Cyromancer who'd probably freeze up his gears constantly. so I try not to get too logical about it.

Well for one thing, Smoke is not made of smoke. He has a very physical form, and CAN turn into smoke. And as for Sub Zero... they're still human but with cybernetic augmentation. So most of the body would be left intact, and circuitry should still work cold.
But you're right; it is Mortal Kombat, and logic only goes so far.
