Description
I made this some weeks ago.Because I'm very tired to see that most people think that pterosaurs or any prehistoric reptile (or sometimes even any prehistoric creature) is a dinosaur!!
First of all, dinosaurs lived in the mesozoic era, so any creature that lived before or after, is NOT a dinosaur, no matter how similar it looks.
Second, dinosaurs were terrestrial, so all marine creatures like plesiosaurs and others are NOT dinosaurs, and also the flying creatures like the Pteranodon here (also, this flying creatures are called Pterosaurs, not Pterodactyls!).
And also, if by you want to know more about the anatomy of dinosaurs, what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, the Holy Wikipedia is here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dinosaur
So, there is 2 group of dinosaurs:
Saurischia (all the carnivore dinosaurs, Theropods, and that big long-necked dinosaurs, Sauropods) and Ornithischia (all the other herbivores, probably some omnivores).
So yes, I'm sorry, Dimetrodon, Megalania, Chlamydosaurus and others, are not dinosaurs! they never were.
------

Not all dinosaur names end in saurus.
take Triceratops, for example
And Velociraptor
Ornithomimus
Iguanadon (named in 1825, 17 years before the word dinosaur was coined)

Dinosaurs are a group of reptiles that stem from the group Archosauria, The Dinosaurs consist of 2 main orders, Ornithischia and Saurischia, These Do Not contain Pterosaurs, Marine Reptiles, or Crocodiles. Only Dinosaurs and Birds belong to the Dinosaur Clade.

ok, But a Pterosaur still isn't a Dinosaur, Neither am I, We may share a Common Ancestor, but they aren't on the same branch to be called Dinosaurs, But they are both on the same branch to be Archosaurs. so if you want to be correct, Go to the Point where the Two groups separated from each other, and call them from that group they originated from, not one that the other isn't a part of.

but you can't call a Pterosaur a Dinosaur because of that, you can call both Dinosaurs and Pterosaurs Archosaurs though.
