Description This one is a lot more directly-derived than most of my other sketches based off of existing firearms, because I am not very familiar with the Bren = not as confident in taking liberties with redesigning it. Still, I quite like this.

I'm liking where you've gone with this "epiverse" equipment. If you have any questions on the BREN- I've owned a full-auto blank-fire only one, and am now building a legal semi version of the Mk.1 (Australian variant). RIght now, I am getting someone to do a re-weld and mod of the receiver, so an original bolt can't be mounted if it's un-modified.

Awesome project! The only BREN I've ever seen in person was unfortunately 'display only' - sliced in half. Such a lovely machine.

It really is an amazing machine. Not too terribly biased here- but it may have been the finest Light MG fielded in WW2. The Japanese used a variant, as did the Czech- but the BREN was a much-improved version. Mine will be chambered in .303- but will also take 7.62x54R (the Russian rifle round~) with a change of the barrel and magazine (ZB Czech mags~). I also intend to get a bolt modified to run .308 NATO rounds, too. This will require a change in the bolt, ejector block/mag catch (single part, really~) and magazines- and of course, a new barrel!

The quick- change barrel, adjustable gas system (up front, where the gas take-off is~) and top magazine made this a great weapon. You could get really down in the dirt, unlike the BAR of the U.S., and the magazine held 30 rounds- while almost all others held only 20 or 25. Plus, it was built like a brick shithouse...

We have one of those training display guns in our group of friends- it's very cool, but sad that the gun is toast, too...

You should make a remake of the Browning Water-cooled machinegun!

I'm sorry, but I still see the Brent, even though you did some alters like that big release clip behind the clip

Yeah. Like I said in the description, I'm not very familiar with Bren gun internals, so that kind of limits what design licence you can take if you want it to be feasable and functional.

hmm, I'll see if I can scan the two page image of a Bren I have in my Encyclopedia of Weapons of WWII for ya.

As SOON as I saw this, my brain exploded through my nasal cavity. (made quite the mess) Being a HUGE. Fan of the Bren, this is like, like....like a wonderful sequel. Absolutely love it man.

That's exactly what I was going for - a modernized version of the Bren gun. Actually that's what a fair portion of BSA firearms are; redesigned WWII and Cold war weaponry made to be produced cheap, en masse, and be reliable as hell.

Glad you like it I'm also a big fan of the Bren, hell most of the British weapons of WWII are freakin' sweet.

That's why I love your weapon designs so much. It's like modern synthetic goodness wrapped around a true-to-the-breach classic.

And I love the Bren and Webley Mark IV (best small/medium caliber double action revolver ever)

I'm thinking of doing a second model of the spike, using this sketch as a base. Other than playing with the Bren's shapes quite a bit more to make something original, was thinking of including a few "options" like a reflex sight and such. What else do you think might fit well on the Bren?

CabooseRIF In reply to Pyrosity [2008-02-01 22:28:48 +0000 UTC]

I like the refelx sight idea! something to possibly add, a magazine clamp and spare mag, so reloading is quicker (Curse those damn 30 round mags, though i suppose it's got a foot up on the BAR since it's only 20 rounds)

Hmm... Perhaps an extended magazine (up to 40 seems nice) would be in order, to help with that.

I'd use a drum but I think one of the aspects of the Bren that catches your eye is that banana curve mag feeding from the top. Might end up drawing a drum as an alternate anyway though.

yeah, i'd love to see a drum, but i agree about the allure of the banana. Kinda off topic, have you ever seen the movie Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels?

Can't say that I have. Odd thing though, I saw a poster for it today at college. I think it was a student doing a poster for an already existing movie as a study, cause I saw a similar movie poster around the college earlier.

It has a WONDERFUL Bren-gun scene. [link] -theres a Youtube clip of it

By the same director that did Snatch (another great movie, if you haven't seen it.)
