Description Besides that she's a beautiful horse, I loved how relaxed she was, unfetteredd by human demands except for the camera.
A 5 year old Halflinger/ Appaloosa cross.

but it never turns out to be.

I easily could, but I really do covet her, she's not mine. This is my mare [link] and I do love her, she's my 'Lassie' horse, been blind for nine years and is now 29, but though I don't ride her she is still a beauty and was the best trail horse possible in her time.

It is a lovely drawing, your Lassie.
She doesn't look old and in great shape.
Do the owners of Outstanding, treat her well?

She was 15 in the photo I drew that from...she still looks good though, for an old girl she's keeping her weight.
Outstanding, her real name is Grace, she's well-loved and well-kept, yes.

thanks, Aakyra. She was a struggle in some respects but I never have seen a prettier mare. I looked at a hundred photos of her. I was so ready to be a horse thief.

! I was taking another look see at your picture and I decided to look more closely at one of your canine works. Just curiosity... I am a dog lover, have 3, had eight not long ago, nut art wise I like to draw horses. I was thinking of how skilled you were and as I looked at the image and details of the one I selected I got tears in my eyes. Amazing, story, amazing art!

That must have been Pinky, right? Pinky breaks my heart and stitches it back up again.
You are entirely too good for my ego, my dear. Especially as right now I'm really struggling on my current drawing. A human portrait surprisingly, and I hope the Elite-Equines don't kick me out as a result. What do you suppose the problem is? Her HAIR. Like I haven't drawn enough hair yet.
You are very sweet and I appreciate your remarks all the more knowing what a competent artist you are yourself.

Yes, it was Pinky, and her portrait is a blessing of health and obvious love! I struggle with all of my work until I pass the half way point. It is then that the tedium is etched in and the refinement process starts and I fall in love agaian and again with the miracle of creating art. Hair is a huge challenge. My drawing Azabache turned into a nightmare when I realized that I had to work each strand of the mane individually to get the effect of a real Freisian's mane. The piece I am currently working on has a the same issue with the wind tossing the mane and tail in every direction, a white horse, so the shawdowing is subtle but has to be perfect to establish that wind tossed look of hair.... you are so nice to say that! I am really pleased to have met you here. I love your art and collect very few traditional pieces as favorites. I have a high standard for traditional work and expect the same perfection from others that I establish for myself. I truely am impressed with your work and am humbly pleased with your compliments, despite having high standards. Time will tell how competent I am, my first two pieces faired well in competitions, I think God worked a miracle for me because I haven't done any work in over thirty years and then, well you can look at my two finished pieces. It had to be a miracle! I am looking forward to your next picture, and I know it will be stunning!

Well you're entirely too sweet but we'll let it slide since it's nearly Valentine's Day.
Amazing you took thirty years off. You certainly didn't lose anything. What made you start up again?
I picked up my pencils only 8 months ago after a 13 year dry spell. I really thought I would never draw again. DA really helps keep me motivated, it's really good to have a network/community of peers who get the process and even the angst.
You needn't be humble, your work doesn't warrant it and besides you use color in ways that are quite beyond me, I never go near the stuff. Though some time I may pick up some quality colored pencils and venture in up to my ankles.
I am still pulling my own hair out over this hair meanwhile. I hate learning curves.
I know what you mean about wanting to see a certain standard in pencil work. Sometimes I just delight in primitive or untrained work, some of the stuff here is wonderful in its directness and/or simplicity, but I don't love a pencil piece that looks strained.
