Can't say the first one is ugly in any way. I can certainly see the difference between the three figures and their shading, but it makes sense to believe that the first one has simply a different lighting to it? Like, a purplish-soft aura, compared to Hammerfell-Astarill and aggressive-Astarill. They have, more or less, a more neutral light to it? Ugh, excuse my poor explanations but I haven't been writing English for quite a while now.
Aside from that, did you have any issues with this kind of pose? Drawing it, I mean.
So, I didn't really follow anything on tumblr lately because of the lack of internet but... do you care to give me a rough summary of what happened to him?

I used to have a lot of trouble drawing characters from the back, but the reason that I've drawn all three of them in roughly the same pose is that that has just always been a sort of habit for my blog background. If I don't have a scary up-close stare-into-your-soul portrait, I have a full-body thing like this. The back is turned towards the side bar of the blog, which just looks aesthetically pleasing to me. And the ambient color of the first one was different from the others, yes, but I also see faults in lines and details, and the shading/coloring in general is just unrefined. I did discover some new tricks lately, that I have applied in the last one.
Basically, Molag Bal broke him. XD

You may think that the first one is ugly but I see improvement all across the board. Not that my opinion matters in any way, shape or form but your skill in light source and shadow have taken a turn for the better. Astarill has come a long way and I mean a looong way and so have your art. It's admirable as hell seeing your art and your rp take on such a fantastic form.
