It smells, no, it wreaks of piss, the stentch of garbage is overwhelming, if you don't see rats, or a few cockroaches, you're lucky. The drunkards, and homeless sleep here, the druggies thrive here.And it's the most beautiful place in this city.

Agreed. There's something about the alleys in downtown. You step 10 or 20 feet away from the beaten path and find yourself in a different world, where the original beauty (or ugliness) and intent of the old buildings are preserved, and there's no requirement nor desire to impress anyone. It just does.

I adore that alley. The flats above with the overhanging alcoves are about to be- if not already put up for rent by the owners after the coffee shop went up downstairs. I'd rightwell kill to have one of those.
