Description
It was a cool, windy night. Drac had just returned from a night of feeding. He was waiting on his friends, Frank and Wolf, to return from their respective pastimes. Wolf was out hunting. The werewolf did settle for dog chow most of the time but he did prefer the flesh of animals- occasionally even humans. Frank was out scaring, for the fun of it.
He settled into a chair and picked up his favorite book. The fire warmed his cold skin and made the vampire extra comfortable. Dracula blinked slowly, settling deeply into his chair and sighing pleasurably. Suddenly the large oaken front door flung itself open, letting in the cold night air.
The ancient monster looked up in surprise as wolf came inside. There was something bundled against his chest. "Vat do you have there, Volf?" He stood up, forgetting his book.
"Let her warm by the fire." Wolf snapped. His animalistic parental instincts were in full control. He shifted the bundle and Drac caught on to the tiny thrum off a small creature's heartbeat.
"Who?" The vampire began to take the bundle but Wolf snapped at him, protective of the helpless little girl he was holding. Drac tried not to look offended and stepped back, closing the door to keep the October chill out.
Wolf settled down by the fire. He moved the cloth bundle and sat it down. It moved, whimpered, and revealed itself to be a young sleeping child. She could have been no more than three. The small child was shivering from cold and what the vampire suspected was fear. He and Wolf both settled down beside her as she slept. Wolf curled close to her and slowly she stopped shivering, clutching his tail like a stuffed animal.
Drac narrowed his eyes as Wolf smiled. He looked between her and the werewolf thoughtfully. "Who is she?"
"I don't know."
"Where did she come from?"
"I found her in the woods not far from town. I had to get her because the wolves were closing in."
"Did you think that maybe she has a family?"
"We'll see when she wakes. Probably not though."
Drac frowned. Who was this little girl? Why was she alone in the woods? And here was the most important- "Is she human?"
Wolf paled under his fur and frowned. He wasn't sure. She was too young to really tell. "I think so." He laid his head across his paws. This might be a problem, but they would have to just see how human she really was.
