Poor snake; it can barely see WTF's going on! Look at it's eyes - they're milky (for those that don't know; snakes don't have eyelids - they can never close their eyes. However, the eye is protected by a clear scale that becomes milky just before shedding as a slightly milky fluid is secreted by the snake's skin that helps to loosen the old skin); it's getting ready to shed - a time when a snake is at it's most uncomfortable and just wants to be left alone.
Snakes can be quite unpredictable during this time of vulnerability and may strike if frightened by changes in the light as it can no longer see clearly.
The only reference this can provide is how to be cruel to a snake that puts up with a lot.
BTW; yes, I have snakes and one of mine is about the same size and I can do anything with him during that time if I want to but I don't.
I've had him for over 10 years and he has never shown the slightest bit of aggression towards me (the previous owner sold him after he had been bitten for the third time (37 micro stitches in his hand). He used to play with him (he's not a f'n dog; he doesn't have the brain complexity to feel happy or sad or want to play). I handle him so he's used to me but that is so that he's not afraid or threatened by me.
I absolutely adore him but he couldn't give a flying f'k about me so long as I feed him and give him fresh water..................
