the earring causes A Lot of Conflict™ between zev and mahariel lmao. she rejects it the first time bc a) she doesnt think its necessary bc she was happy to help b) she doesnt have her ears pierced c) theyre in combat A Lot and she doesnt want to lose it and d) she lowkey is bummed it isnt a token of affection so that leads to zev being Upset and he ends up snapping at her so SHE gets upset and snaps at HIM and theyre mad at each other and either bicker or ignore each other but then!! she gets sent to ft drakon!!! and the landsmeet happens!! and she very well could die soon!!! so she sucks it up and talks to him abt it and they talk abt Feelings™ which is weird for everyone involved but they reconcile and she accepts the earring as a token of affection (and possible marriage proposal lmao) and they smooch a lot and everythings Good
