Description
Scene 3JUMP CUT FROM LAST SCENE, SOUND FADES IN
EXT. COURTYARD IN WHITECHAPEL
EDWARD GUNNER enters the run-down, filthy courtyard. He's covering his mouth and nose with a hankerchief, clearly overwhelmed by the horrible smell of the slums. The shot is close on him as he walks through the gate. The shot changes to a full view of the courtyard from the side. On the right side of the screen is EDWARD, in the gateway, with several uniformed police officers behind him. On the left side of the screen is a street OFFICER, standing at attention next to a body covered in a white sheet. There are some faint street noises in the background. EDWARD stands still for several seconds, then visibly steels himself and walks across the courtyard to the body. He stands beside it, at a right angle to the guard, who's standing at the body's head. The shot shows both of them standing, facing three quarters towards the camera.
EDWARD GUNNER
Good morning, sir.
OFFICER
Investigator.
EDWARD GUNNER
May i see the... (he gestures towards the body) victim?
The OFFICER bends down, and lifts up the sheet. As he does this, the shot pans downward. When the corpse is finally uncovered, the camera is looking down on the face, taking in the slashed throat. It is clearly MARY ANN NICHOLS. The eyes are open, the face twisted in an expression of fear. EDWARD GUNNER pulls a stick out of his jacket, and uses it to push back the collar on the corpse's dress. The shot shows him taking out the stick, then switches to the collar as he pulls it back. Inside is the name of her lodging. The shot switches back to EDWARD as he, with an expression of distaste, takes off his glove and puts his hand against the skin on her face.
EDWARD GUNNER
The girl is still warm. At what hour did you say she was found?
OFFICER
She was found at fifteen minutes past three, sir. Near four hours ago.
EDWARD GUNNER
She should not still feel as though she were living. But was tehre any sign of any... er, male action? Connexion? (he gestures, making it clear what he's alluding to.)
OFFICER
No, sir. There were strange markings, of a sort, though none seen that were ever made by men. Perhaps some new illness, such things breed in the flith that is Whitechapel.
EDWARD GUNNER
Hmm... Perhaps.
EDWARD GUNNER straightens up, and moves back as the OFFICER pulls the sheet back up over the body. The shot changes to a medium closeup on EDWARD GUNNER's face, showing his head and torso against a darkish, cloudy sky.
EDWARD GUNNER
Stay on guard for a short while longer, I shall send a doctor back, with my men. They can take the poor wretch to the morgue.
OFFICER
(returning to attention) Yes, sir.
EDWARD GUNNER turns, and walks away, followed by his guards.

This scene is amazing, as always, and you are still brilliant. You realize I haven't been able to write something this long since grade four, right? (Ohgod that was so BAD.)
(Oh, and sort-of-relevant: I bought the Batman vs. Jack the Ripper book yesterday, iffen you want to borrow it...)

I'm really loving this screenplay. And though it has been mentioned, you're setting an awesome atmosphere.

Thanks! (These are backlogged scenes, actually. I wrote these during History. So it's not actually coming along as quickly as I would like, but I'm glad you like it.)

You have finished up to scene 10, though. How many are you aiming for?

Well, it's like, 21 pages or something. It needs to be like, 100-120.

Still...if you enjoy working on it then it doesn't really matter.
