Description Some months ago I made a drawing of someone keeping a clandestine watch over a campsite .  I wasn't happy about how the picture was composed and have been wanting to try that again, I've finally gotten around to doing that.  Or at least getting it started.

I've also been trying to keep tabs on the process I use when drawing, trying to figure out if there are better techniques I could use along the way.  Not really sure that's turning up much, but it's interesting how I actually do things when drawing.  I kind of wish I could catch the actual process, how I jump around between different elements.

Anyway, I put together this animation that tracks all the construction I did for this drawing.

1) I started with a rough thumbnail sort of sketch.  Then I went over this building up perspective guidelines.  This is all done in Infinite Painter since it has the best perspective tools I've found so far.
2) Now I switch to Artflow as it's much more comfortable to draw in.  The light blue lines are where I'm blocking in the different elements for the drawing, trying to work out proportions and positioning.  Normally I just use rough shapes for them, but for some reason I felt the tents needed to have good details.
3) In a new layer I used orange to create mannequins for the figures and build up the shapes for the trees.
4) Another new layer and with green I'll work out the anatomy for the figures as well as refine the leaves of the trees.  I try to keep each new step on it's own layer and in its own color, this has been very useful in identifying what construction lines I'm seeing in later steps.
5) In red I'll start building up actual details for all the objects.  In this case it's just marking the clothes for the two figures.  I should also do hair and facial features, but I didn't get to that yet.

Next will be another new layer to hold the line work which I'll do in black.  Then textures and inking, and that's generally where my pictures stop.  I've still got a desire to do colors, just I'm pretty uncomfortable with them so it's a bit of a mental hurdle.
