A series of illustrations for a forthcoming book presenting the evolution of the avian wing planform.

Put forward by Scott Hartman, the aerodynamic running hypothesis recalls ostriches today who use their wings to help balance and steer as they accellerate or slow down, giving them a functional wing without ever flying. It is quite likely that large oviraptorosaurs, such as the caenagnathid shown here -- perhaps the Hell Creek oviraptorosaur itself -- would have used their relatively short wings as aerodynamic stabilizers, and a raised tail would provide a brake of sorts.

Well, it is an oviraptorosaur, so I am fairly biased myself.
