Description
Reblog on my TumblrI've seen a lot of eye tuts on dA...at least, what seems like tutorials, but a lot of them are simply either step-by-step or just a bunch of different styles of eyes in different angles. None of them really explain how the eyes look the way it does, why the eyelids casts that shadow on the eyeballs, etc. At least, none that I've seen
I hope this gives you guys a more in-depth look to the human eye and the structure surrounding it. This actually took quite a long time, so i hope you guys like it
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask
here's the step-by-step put into gif so it's easier to see:
here are the skull studies I did back a few years ago:
My other tutorials:
My other works:
I put some anime eyes in the references too, hope you guys don't mind, hahaha.
ps. i put it in traditional art catagory because it's the only one with the subsection "anatomy" in it. I'm not sure why digital art can't teach anatomy either, but you'll have to ask dA about that. xD;;.
PPS: I did this in Painttool SAI

What suggestions might you have for developing an artist-unique eye style? It's my goal to, while practicing and improving on drawing people, to stray away from anime and create my own human style that I can call my own. But, great tutorial, it helps a lot. Thanks for sharing your valuable knowledge!

Umm, I might be able to help~ Some people say that to get your style to show you need to try doing your work without thinking to much, then how you really draw will emerge; I think that's why quick sketches always have so much feeling to them. So if you draw a quick sketch without overthinking it you might see how you draw without the overbearing feeling of trying to get what you're working on right (like if you are trying to use someone elses style, and you try to hard and it comes out "wrong").

If you ever think about doing another cool tut like this, could you do one about noses?!!! or at least could you suggest me one?? ;A; It's hard for me to run away from the typical 2 mm manga nose because If I draw another shape, it looks weird to me and I don't know why

very nicely done - you covered things that are important to know and understand for beginners and always good to keep in mind for advanced painters/drawers.

here's some custom brushes you can download on dA: [link] (there's instructions as well).
