Description
Reblog on my TumblrI've seen a lot of eye tuts on dA...at least, what seems like tutorials, but a lot of them are simply either step-by-step or just a bunch of different styles of eyes in different angles. None of them really explain how the eyes look the way it does, why the eyelids casts that shadow on the eyeballs, etc. At least, none that I've seen
I hope this gives you guys a more in-depth look to the human eye and the structure surrounding it. This actually took quite a long time, so i hope you guys like it
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask
here's the step-by-step put into gif so it's easier to see:
here are the skull studies I did back a few years ago:
My other tutorials:
My other works:
I put some anime eyes in the references too, hope you guys don't mind, hahaha.
ps. i put it in traditional art catagory because it's the only one with the subsection "anatomy" in it. I'm not sure why digital art can't teach anatomy either, but you'll have to ask dA about that. xD;;.
PPS: I did this in Painttool SAI

Thank you very much for this! I've been concentrating on purely realistic eyes but it'd be so nice to be able to relax and take this approach from time to time <3333 I love your style!

The eyelids wrap around the eyelid?
From
"the way the eyelids wrap around the eyelid is different for Asians"

mostly of your draws are made on paint tool sai or photoshop? I use SAI because photoshop is too slow and blocks but then i cant give the right effects with SAI tools

I do most of my artwork in SAI because my computer is too slow right now to handle photoshop properly.

The tutorial category should be re-arranged that can pen space for artisan craft and other media types tutos.
I've see on very good eye tutorial from Linda Bergkvist way back, I also recommend peoples check her website.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! You really are right in the fact that very few tutorials really go into depth on why things should look the way they do. You explain the common sense that never quite registers (at least for me) and I believe I have a much better understanding of where I've been going wrong.
Expressions and the face in general is my current project of improvement. Your tutorial is a fantastic resource and aid.

I can relate to the Asian-Eyed thing. I tried to do my friends makeup (she's a quarter japanese) and I was like, "What? You have no creases!"

Nice Quick question.
How do you make sure that both eyeballs are looking exactly at the same thing. A lot of my eyes look squint :/

Nice tutorial, but isn't traditional art, it's digital. Thank you to change this^^

Qinni In reply to AnneliLev [2012-06-23 01:38:32 +0000 UTC]
digital art has no catagory for anatomy tutorials. Traditional was the only one. I'd rather be more specific about what this is about rather than the medium it's done in, because when it comes to learning anatomy, it doesn't matter what medium you're using.

AnneliLev In reply to Qinni [2012-06-23 02:19:35 +0000 UTC]
I'm okay with this, but I just think that, if you explain your tuto for to do on digital (with layer, and other technick reference) you have to put this in digital. But if you dont think like this, no problem!^^ Good tutorial!

Qinni In reply to AnneliLev [2012-06-23 03:40:20 +0000 UTC]
ahh, okay; no, i did most of these on one layer anyways, so there's no layers required in learning this kind of thing anyways . In fact, it's better if it's learned without the help of layers
. thanks anyways
