This is by far one of my personal favourite traditional piece of work I’ve ever managed to complete.

I've never spent so long or tried this type of rendering with gouache and watercolour before. I still think it's a lot easier to achieve this style with acrylic or oil painting though. Gouache especially gives a nice matt finish that I love, but it's fairly easy to accidentally wash off the bottom layer so I often had to redo whole areas so that her face wouldn't get those puddled textures you can get on water-based mediums. I recently tried Acrylic gouache and it's not as permanent as I thought...it washes off in bits and pieces lol. which actually gives a worse looking effect -.-;;

You can see a bit of process videos on my instagram, but because this took so long I never really took the whole thing. I used a lot of pictures of Ponysmakeup for reference but ended up deviating quite a bit from the start of this piece.

Done with Windsor & Newton gouache , Talens Japan watercolour , Strathmore sketchbook (good paper, bad binding. i had to cut it out of the book to properly finish it)
