I never took that as his fate. Something strange was going on there, something unusual. If you look at the Dragon Quest episode, it's clear that dragons mature slowly, like everyone else. Something out of the ordinary happened to Spike in The Secret of My Excess that I don't think necessarily ties him to a particular future. He didn't even look the same as he did when Twilight "matured" him right after he was hatched, either.
Ultimately, it's fiction. He can be anything we want him to be.

The picture looks nice, but what is the "impossible dream" that is mentioned in the title? What kind of message is this image trying to say?
I admit I dont know much about the new pony show, so my question may sound a little dumb.

This is going to sound strange, but I'm not entirely sure. It's a song from The Man from La Mancha, about Don Quiote ("to dream the impossible dream"... etc.). It was evoked in me by the way the look on Spike's face evolved. It hasn't been expressed yet on the show, but I would imagine one of his dreams would be to get his wings like other dragons. But once that's achieved, well, there's always something else. What's Spike looking at here? Rainbow Dash? The Wonder Bolts? Other dragons migrating? I guess what I was thinking was, even once you get "your dream", it's often just the stepping stone to the next one.

You know, I'm old enough now that I don't have to have the last word for its own sake, and that's not what this is about. I'm just not prepared to have this passed off as something frivolous and without grounding in the internal logic of the show.
There have now been literally dozens of other dragons shown across a half dozen or so episodes, and so far, not a single one has lacked wings, with the exception of Spike. Also, not a single dragon under "teenage" has been shown in any episode, again, except Spike. It is not at all illogical to extrapolate from that evidence that Spike can expect to have wings once he's older. In fact, given the evidence, it would be illogical to suppose he won't, since there's not a single instance of another wingless dragon on the show, nor a winged dragon his age to imply he's any kind of exception.
One of the main themes of the whole show is the realization of new abilities as one matures. The whole Cutie Mark Crusader arc is about it. The only difference between the three of them and Spike is that Spike isn't surrounded by creatures of his own species telling him every time he turns around that he just has to wait. There are latencies in at least two other young characters: Sweetie Belle can't use magic to even move objects yet, and Scootaloo can't fly. But given the evidence of every other unicorn and pegasus on the show, what basis would there be to insist that's a permanent state of affairs--and who would?
So given the evidence of every other dragon on the show, why do so where Spike is concerned?

Holy hell where did this come from? I didnt imply anything -.- but sure if you wanna go there. How can it be illogical that Spike stays wingless? As much as it is a lil girls show, there can still be logic in it and one being the most obvious is that we have already seen Spike as an adult and he didnt have wings! Maybe Spike is a rare wingless breed of dragon, he could very much be!
And secondly, wings dont work that way! If a creature is meant to have wings, then they are born with them. They dont just grow out all of a sudden at a certain age.
Therefore it's more illogical that he WILL have wings.

Because as I've just pointed out, there are no other wingless dragons on the show. Your insistence is, to me, no more sensible than aliens having a sample of 200 adult human women but deciding the preadolescent girl will not have breasts simply because she doesn't yet exhibit them. Now it's true they would have no example of a girl actually acquiring them yet in to conclusively answer the question one way or the other, but still the preponderance of evidence would be against that conclusion.
That is to say, it's not impossible to suggest that Spike will never have wings. But the indications of simply looking at every other dragon that's ever been on the show is that he will.

No, we've seen Spike arbitrarily enlarged by Twilight's magical burst and as a consequence of his greed, and in each case he looked utterly different, which means there was nothing inevitable about the nature of those outcomes (if there were, he would have looked precisely the same in both instances). Neither one of these connotes his actual maturing, nor the undergoing of any kind of rite of passage that might be required to bestow wings on a dragon. They were states acting on his physiology as it existed at the time, and that state was wingless.
And secondly, wings dont work that way
How do you know? It's a show about talking horses who fly and do magic, and yet you're demanding it's got to be tied down to a set of actual biological rules? Alright, fine. Show me the biology textbook on dragons in the real world that says that's not how wings work for them, and I'll concede the point.
Not to put too fine a point on it, the show is imaginary, and provided they maintain continuity (even assuming that's crucial to them), anything the writers want to have happen, can.
If a creature is meant to have wings, then they are born with them
Rarity wasn't born with wings, and yet she had them in Sonic Rainboom.
And there are thousands of species, in the real world, born without wings but which acquire them later. Admittedly none of them are vertebrates, but the principle still exists. For example, you've heard of a butterfly, I imagine. It's not born with wings, but acquiring them at some point is crucial to its life cycle... as it might be for a migratory species like dragons are in MLP:FiM, say. Grumble did ask Spike if his "mommy" was carrying him, and how long would that be practical as he gained in size and weight?

Oh for pete's sake, this is such a drag. Fine, you know what, whatever! Yes I put logic in a show about talking horses, so what? That's my view on it, and so in my view, Spike should not and will not get wings.

Now I've told you the reasons why I think those of us who draw Spike with wings are on solid ground, so I hope you'll keep them in mind the next time you decide to take it upon yourself to rain on their parade. But if you really think you're all about "applying logic" to the show, consider this...
There are no vertebrate species with six limbs, and no mammals with feathers. But you're okay with pegasi, right?
There are no horses with vocal tracts capable of making the sounds of human languages, nor a brain capable of generating them if they did, but ponies speaking North American English are just fine, right?
No equine species has horns, and certainly none of them has a demonstrated telekinetic ability, but unicorns who move things around with magic? You don't seem to have a problem with that.
They don't live in houses, build cities, found nation-states, forge steel, or design and wear clothes... but all that seems to sit alright with you.
So all those impossible, illogical, and absurd ideas don't cause you any sleepless nights. But you balk at the suggestion that the one dragon character without wings might one day, somehow, get them, and take it upon yourself to criticize anyone for even imagining it.
And you want to say you're "applying logic to the show"? Sorry, no.

I've always believed that eventually Spike WILL have wings. He's the only dragon who's been shown on the show so far without them, and he's also the only "baby" dragon, so-called. I've taken the times that's he's been giant and wingless to be a result of the fact that he hadn't developed the wings prior to enlarging (enlarging, rather than aging, if you see what I mean). I think it's a rite of passage for dragons like cutie marks are for ponies. Of course, all that is just my opinion, but I find it desperately sad if Spike should be condemned out of all his kind to be forever earthbound.
