Description
Sometimes destiny just sneaks up on you, and smacks you in the ass.The streetlamps reflected off the pavement, and off the few streaks of bright blonde in Bree's frizzy hair. The leaves crunched underneath her feet as she trekked the four blocks to her apartment building from the university. Her second year of university was turning out to a lot of work, but it was worth it. It was only the beginning October, and she had managed to bring her GPA up a couple of points from her first year.
She came to the last crosswalk before her apartment building, and checked. Like usual at that hour, no cars were coming. Halfway across the street, she heard the engine. Her head snapped to the side, and saw the bright headlights. That was the last thing she saw.

"What is that annoying sound," Bree moaned. She tried to move, but she felt constricted. After a couple attempts, she was able to open her eyes. She was lying in a hospital bed, surrounded by all sorts of contraptions. It took her a minute to figure out that she had most likely been hit by the car, since the last thing she remembered was headlights. Yet, she had no casts, and wasn't restrained at all. She just hurt a lot. She closed her eyes again, resting. When a nurse came in, she would ask what happened to her.
The curtains of the hospital were all shut at night. The shadow crept in, past nurses and orderlies working during the night. It made its way to the room where the great power source emanated from. It snuck into the room, creeping towards the sleeping blonde in the bed.
"Stop!" a voice commanded. A silhouette appeared in the room, surrounded by bright, silver light. The light filled the room, until the shadow disappeared. The light retracted, and no trace of the shadow remained. The figure breathed a sigh of relief, and placed something on the bedside, at eye level with the slumbering woman. The ghostly figure slowly faded away into the moonlight.
Bree woke again, feeling funny. In the corner of her room, she thought she saw a woman, but when she tried to get a closer look, it was gone. She settled back into the bed again, when something caught her eye. On her bedside was what looked like a toy butterfly. She picked it up, examining the odd object. It felt warm in her hand, and comforting.
