I wouldn't doubt that the delay helped keep Lucas out but it also wouldn't matter. Roy was in Melee and he didn't have his own game at the time. Melee was Roy's first appearance in any video game and its not even his own series. A delay in on itself wouldn't be the sole reason why Lucas wasn't included in Melee. Melee was overall rushed and there was decent amount of characters, like Snake, that was unable to make in hence the fact they're in Brawl.

Oh man really? :/ I hope they don't, I like Lucas, but I mean... Come on it's Ness. XD 
I'd still be kind of surprised if they did get rid of him. It just seems like a silly idea on their end. Smash won't be the same without him, for me. ;v; haha

Agreed, getting rid of Ness wouldn't be good on their part. Ness is such a fun and unique character. True, Lucas is just like Ness in terms of how he's different from the other fighters, but Ness came first. He's one of the original 12! Why get rid of him? Especially since there's a lot of fans for him, it just wouldn't make sense.
