Ok, after talking about AC a few days ago, it fester on my mind until I finally caved in and bought the first one today (so I can finish it before II). I actually -just- got off my ps3 after playing it for almost 7 hours straight.

AND WHAT DO I SEE IMMEDIATELY ON DA?!!!

HAHAHAHA!! BUT ASSASSIN'S CREED IS AWE-SHUM. Makes me want to get it and play it myself but I have no console and my PC would die from the graphics but I loved watching Esra jump around the Middle East.

Because we all know I'm a sucker for that culture.

Altaïr is awesome. As you said, Ezio is great for beeing mischivious and funny, but Altaïr is just badass. (And honestly, he has more character development in my opinion, or atleast more interesting one. But I've always liked "redeemed badboys".)

I loved how the Codexes in part II revealed the depth to Altair's character you don't get in part I, since he was more following orders whereas you follow Ezio through thirty or fourty years of his life, and therefore see more of his character, family, etc.

NikitaDarkstar In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-05-29 20:10:52 +0000 UTC]

Well I run on a keyboard (mainly.. or gamepad for the keyboard), so use that... but do yourself a favour and remap the controls.. default keyboard controls in AC1 dislocates fingers... (ok my fingers are always dislocated.. but still XD)

Esra says he tried the keyboard and it sucked. He has a controller but I'm generally crud at using the damn thing, so I can see mass-PC-breakage if I tried.

NikitaDarkstar In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-05-29 20:20:09 +0000 UTC]

Yhea, the keyboard sucks pretty badly. got a Belkin n52te I use when I play. Got steering cross(can be changed for a joystick, but hate the joystick), scrollwheel and 16 buttons (and 3 programmable profiles) on it. Gotten so used to it that the first thing I do in any and all game is set it up for use with that, and well, yhea it makes AC1 and AC2 actualyl have decent controls.. still abit frustrating but decent. (controls and a few camera bugs here and there sadly makes it painfully obvious the game is ported.)

Yaaaay, Altair FTW ^^
I agree, Ezio is cool (although he's that typical italian gigolo guy type ... ^^) but Altair still pwns his ass (Altair in the "Altair's Armor" outfit from ACII would be sooooo badass ^^)

Anyway, I beat both games already, they're more than awesome (although I'd have to complain that ACII is a tad too easy ... barely took me 10 hours to beat it .... )

It took Esra three days at a leisurely pace, but had I been playing it I would have been done far later. You people are just crazy gamers, for normal people it takes TIIIME.

Someone on DA finished Legend of Zelda in less than a week.

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-05-27 16:08:32 +0000 UTC]

Whaddaya mean, "normal people"? xD There's no such thing as normality ^^
Anyway. I guess you mentioned somewhere that you suck at consoles anyway, so that might be a factor too(and since I have basically grown up with a playstation ever since my 10th birthday ... y'know, you get the hang of it over time ... ^^)
But I guess I am a crazy gamer at that (you know, a lot of german guys are, actually ... guess it starts becoming part of our culture, just like beer ...^^)

Legend of Zelda in a week isn't fast if you know what you're doing ..... (and it also depends on how many hours per day we're talking about ... a friend of mine was playing it like 14 hours per day back in the day ... didn't take him long, but I don't have to mention that, right? ^^)

A game like The Witcher took me a month on and off during school, to give you an idea of how slowly I play, and of course I had to try some quests multiple times, read all the quests, extra text ... and eventually hated the decisions I made in the end. I never go with my gut feeling, stupid me.

^Yeah, you really should. especially with games where basically everything is based on your choices (those games are awesome. One reason why I REALLY look forward to Guild Wars 2. If they can pull off the awesomeness of a single-player RPG in an MMO ... damn, I want the beta NAOH >.<)

I should really buy the Witcher, I just never find it anywhere >.< Read a lot of awesome stuff about it ...

Get The Witcher Enhanced Edition, I loved it, but still haven't managed to beat the two extra quests. The Witcher II is coming out this year I think.

I don't know about the RPG-in-an-MMO thing, to be honst. I know SWG is trying to do it too, but I don't think it'll work. People will have a blast the first time then get bored. In AoC I LOVED the starter Island of Tortage the first time because of the voice overs, the accents, the way you could have different options with the NPCs ... but after the first or second time it just gets tedious and time-consuming to go through it all again. If you want to play an RPG, play and RPG, if you want to play an MMORPG, play an MMORPG, but I don't think merging them is the way to go.

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-05-29 20:12:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh, right, I read about that. But I'll definitely check the first game first ^^

See, that's what the GW2 team wants to aviod. They ask you questions upon character creation that define your char's personality and past, and that combined with your race and profession and the choices you make during the storyline can greatly change what story you experience. I could try to explain at length what they plan to do, but the best thing would probably be to read it on the official page ([link] ). It sounds more than awesome and I'm positive they can pull it off that way, too, since ArenaNet is not exactly known to make empty promises ...
As for you saying "I don't know about the RPG-in-an-MMO thing" ... well ... it IS called MMO-RPG, isn't it? There just isn't much of that RPG in there in most games. But the genre HAS to evolve some day.

Right, right, the old "NCSoft hasn't given us what's in the vision trailer" thing ... I don't care if the 1.9 patch is alittle late getting released, and given how much QQing is bound to make the developer's ears bleed if everything isn't EXACTLY down pat when they release the update I can understand why they'd take their time. Also keeping in mind NCSoft isn't the one behind Aion, the developers in Korea are, they're just the distributers to the US and EU versions of the games, and of all the games I've played so far (sans EQII, because that was a much bigger MMORPG with a greater community, tons of additions already, and a long time running) it's actually the one MMO that so far has done most of what it set out to do.

Of course it's called an MMORPG, but if it's anything like Tortage was in AoC I still say the first one will be ab-so-fucking lutely amazing, but afterwards you'll be so tired of having to listen to these NPCs yammer on, influencing decisions or not. I rarely play any PC-based RPG more than once, the same goes for Esra. I doubt many would feel differently after their first run on these newfangled MMORPGs.

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-05-30 13:18:37 +0000 UTC]

Easy, I didn't mean the 1.9 patch with that "empty promises"-comment ^^ I just mean that nowadays a lot of devs talk big before release to really hype everyone, then don't deliver what they said they would, maybe not at all, maybe buggy as hell ... you know the deal. It seems all those companies care about now is making lots of money with the smallest effort possible. But that's another story ^^

Well, as I obviously haven't played GW2 yet and can only judge it by what little the devs choose to tell us, it might all be the same as pretty much any other MMO just in a different wrapping. Or maybe not (and based on my previous experience with A-Net I'd dare to assume that it isn't so.). But I guess we'll all just have to wait for the beta at the end of the year (hopefully) to see how/if they pull it off. But at the least, I'm very interested, because what they do say sounds pretty cool to say the least.

quartervirus-archive In reply to BloodRedFullMoon [2010-05-31 06:15:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know that story from Age of Conan - they wanted huge PvP fort raids like in those Frazetta pictures, tons of different armor designes, more balanced classes .... in the end you got a game with so many bugs most of the people who played it upon release won't touch it anymore, the classes are in NO WAY balanced, fort raids? Psht, never happened, and it's so badly coded it runs on one core of the four in a computer so it runs even slower than it already does on lower-key computers. So what do they do to try and bring more players in? "Let's revamp all the classes and change the looks of some of the monsters to look more like World of Warcraft or Warhammer or whatever it was!" .... Yeah, right, brilliant.

I'm hearing lots of hype for GW2, though. I'm hoping all the 'tards leave Aion to go play it. Leave us with a significantly less QQ-ful server, but of course that's not likely to happen ... instead EVERYONE will go to play it and poof goes the RP community. |D

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-05-31 08:26:19 +0000 UTC]

Damn, I just HATE games that don't support multi-core CPUs ... (Oblivion doesn't, either, unless you tweak it ... -.- seriously, that's just ... *argh*). But yeah, changing the look of a game to be more WoW-like is of course bound to make the game more successful. Just look at all those free2play WoW-clones. (Nah, there's no slight irony in me saying that Not slight at all ^^)
But they seem to think just 'cause WoW is successful they're gonna be, too, if they make their game like WoW. I wonder what kind of people work in their studios, can't be that intelligent ...

Most of the 'tards in Aion probably come from WoW anyway, and I think you'll have some of them in EVERY MMO. Sadly, that's one thing serious players can't do shit about -.- (apart from ignoring them, I mean. By the way, have you noticed that more tards choose Asmo? That's why the damn pigeons are more organized in PvP ... -.-)
As for the RP community .... well, I'm sure that a) some will still stay in Aion (and seriously, one can play more than one game at once, and since GW2 won't have subscription fees it couldn't be much of a financial issue ^_-) and b) there'll probably be a RP community over in GW2 (Damn right, and if there isn't I'll see to it myself ... ^_^).

quartervirus-archive In reply to BloodRedFullMoon [2010-05-31 23:40:21 +0000 UTC]

I believe I mentioned my theory about the Asmotards and Elyos PvPers before, but a chat with an RP Ellie confirmed that they have douchebags on both sides. As expected.

Esra never warmed to GW because of the instancing they have. I just wish there was an official RP server on Aion, it wouldn't stop the non-RPers from joining it, anyway!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BloodRedFullMoon In reply to quartervirus-archive [2010-06-01 00:04:35 +0000 UTC]

It would not, no. Maybe NC's just too afraid of possible/imagined risks to do it. Like what you said. Even though it's bullshit.
Instancing ... meh. It isn't for everyone, I guess. Although the undeniable advantage of it is that you don't have to put up with tards while playing ^__^

And of course there's douchebags on both sides. And tards. But there's more douchebags with the Elyos, since they're practically the definition of douchebag ...^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

quartervirus-archive In reply to BloodRedFullMoon [2010-06-01 21:13:51 +0000 UTC]

Elyos: they either look like douchebags, or the players seem to think they're the epitome of bishounen/cutesy.

So now you draw AND Aion, AND Assassin's Creed? Damn
Those medieval guys are really small, or something is wrong, but I still like it
Altaïr is indeed more bad-ass than Ezio, but he can't assassinate two at once...at least not IN the game...between the two he found out how to...
Nice to find out about Altaïrs bad-assness via Ezio
What'd you think about the ending, btw?
