I received news tonight that my dog died on Tuesday, 10th of October. He was 16 years old, old even for a Norsk Buhund. I had to say goodbye to him six years ago when he was adopted by another family, but it still struck suddenly and hard.
A Norwegian breed, born in Holland, died in Singapore, and traveled all over the world. I hope your newest adventure is the most exciting yet, and that you finally have all the open fields and snow your happy little heart desires.
You are missed, Kjartan. I wish we could have been a better home for you. We should have been there when you passed. I wish I could have seen you one last time.

My parents got divorced, my sister got married and left the country, and my animation college took up all my time. My dad decided he didn't want to look after the dog anymore, and I didn't have the time to give him the attention and care he deserved. So they gave him away. It was not a mutually agreed decision.

I think that in those situations art is one of the best ways not to forget and to have a beautiful memory: Yours is a wonderful requiem, simple but touching.

He's gone to the Land of Good Boys & Girls. Infinite treats, belly rubs and walkies. Water bowls that refill with clean cool water. Slow squirrels and no trees or telephone poles. Hydrants everywhere. Fireplaces and warm rugs. You'll see him again, and you won't need a leash or collar when you do.
He's not alone. My husky Anya will show him around.

I'm really sorry about what happened to your dog--if it's any consolation, I can totally understand how you feel.
Back in February of 2016, my family had to have our dog, Nipper (named after a nickname that my maternal grandfather had), at the age of thirteen, put to sleep, after she had been suffering from some fairly serious health issues.
This is very a sweet tribute to your dog, and is especially fitting due to the fact that his breed is native to Scandinavia, where Vikings are from.
