Description
I'll be honest, I rarely use the head-proportions technique because I'm already comfortable enough drawing various body types. However, I get asked plenty of times how to draw people, so I pulled out my notes from drawing class and got the OCs to volunteer.
If there's one thing that irritates me to no end it's people complaining that they can't use anatomy books because "they only teach you how to draw muscular people". News flash! Unless you've got some horrible disease we all have the same muscles!!
This is by no means perfect and dear god don't use my anatomy or my characters to practise - go out there and use real people! - but I hope it helps to some small degree.
Note: 7.5 heads does not equal 6'0"; it's a measure of proportions, not height, as the heads can be scaled or shrunk depending on the character.

Commodere has cool pants xD But he has also 3,5 heads for trunk and head and 4 for legs This is idealized (little ancient-greek) proportions

These are the "average" proportions to teach people to draw in any anatomy or drawing book; these are taken from my notes. Nobody has the same proportions ever; I have a longer torso than legs whereas my friend has longer legs than torso. There is no one rule.
If you don't want to use these tips, you don't have to.

Really ? I didn't know it, all people whith I know have legs the same as trunk, and to proportions I use Vitruvian man by Leonardo da Vinci. Maybe we measure it from another points ? I think it's possible.

If everyone's proportions were the same we'd all be the same height with slightly different features.
It all depends on the height though, since tall people are mostly all legs, but they may have average legs and a long torso. It's just a matter of genetics, everyone is different physically, and I doubt da Vinci had the time to go around the world and learn everyone's proportions, lol.

I generally think of men as a triangle and women as an 8. The inverted triangle is a good tip

That's a good one as well. When we still had drawing classes my teacher tried to keep the other students from getting confused and told them it's an inverted triangle for men, and a right-way-up triangle for women, then just add the rest.

Some women have inverted-triangle figures, though.

No woman has a regular-triangle figure, either. The triangle is a starting point to make it easier to visualize that a woman is wider at the hips, whereas a man is wider at the shoulders. If you'll notice in the sketch the woman doesn't follow the shape of the triangle at all.
As I stated, this is by no means the only way of drawing figures. It's just one way and people have been asking me to show them how I work.

I know, I'm just saying that not all women are wider at the hips; it varies more than that.

Huh... Never thought of the triangle theory before. This was very helpful! Thanks!
