Description Artist's Note: I'm so glad you all enjoy this stamp so much, but could you please check out the rest of my gallery? You might like what you find! Thanks!

I remember a time when I would play video games, read comic books, and watch movies like Star Wars or The Matrix and get ridiculed for it. Now it seems like everyone embraces these things. Did the (fingerquotes) "cool" people have some sort of meeting and secretly admit to themselves that we geeks are the cool ones?

Perhaps they realize that the geeks rule the world with our superior gaming skills, tech-support abilities, and our wicked-sexy pocket protectors.

if you've proudly been a geek for as long as you can remember. Or just if you like/support the idea. Let me know if you use it too, so I can check it out on your page!

Huh? I'm cool? Guess I'm the coolest kid in school! XD 'cause I love history (partly because of hetalia, where my hetalians at?) I love diffrent kinds of music (even play a few instruments) I'm in love with movies and not just the "good" movies (you know movies which get a lot of cred for begin " a piece of art" but, in reality they are pretty badly made) I love art. I have a big obbsession with books, anime, cartoons, TV shows, manga and video games! So why aren't I popular? Guess most "cool geeks" are in fact pretty lousy geeks.

Whatever! I have always been a geek, and I will always be a geek!

Almost half of my classes are claiming to be 'geeks' yet they don't hang out with me or even diss me for being a nerd/geek. What irony. They think nerds wear large glasses, wear pickpocket shirts, hold calculators, etc. Stereotypes. Boy, do I hate them.

I've been a geek/nerd since I was 3. I actually do geeky shit and damn proud of what I like and want to do with my electronics. While they're off shopping at Forever21 or talking about gossip in malls, I'm usually found in my room on my laptop 24/7 or in my room playing video games like Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Alice:Madness Returns, Assassin's Creed, etc. for hours. I would be DAMNED that now people only use this label for attention. I did NOT spent almost my whole life as a social outcast to be mocked like this in the end! Geeks/Nerds 4 life. Just sayin'.

I.... guess I can agree with this. There are people who go around with "Geek" on their t-shirts and insult the other kids who are studious or shy. I see that it isn't fair. But in my opinion, you can't really limit yourself to Geek" and create a check-list of requirements for everyone to follow lest they be cast out from the group. I have been called a geek many a time - I have weird hobbies and do not have astounding social abilities, admittedly... but a few supposedly nerdy interests such as Mathematics evade me :/ What I'm saying is, there isn't just a "you are or you're not" in all of this. There are many different ways to be geeky ^^

Well, that's what I think, anyway. Sorry for the long post x

Sometimes I wish the term 'hipster' was never invented. Way back when when I was a small little whippersnapper (why yes, I did feel the need to use those words) I was picked on a lot for being geeky. Too into my DS games, too smart, too writing obsessed, too booky, too teachers pet, the list goes on. Having braces and glasses didn't/doesn't exactly help, either. Now, thanks to the term 'hipster' suddenly all of that is cool? All of that is something to be respected? Arghh! I hated being picked on, but this is just... annoying...

Loved video games all my life and I am ABSOLUTELY a Final Fantasy nerd. No one out right teases me but my friends occasionally do when I go into one of my video game speeches. My friends are pretty cool and they seem to like me for my nerdiness.

What I hate is that one day I was talking to a guy about video games and he said, "I didn't really think girls played video games."
Me: ΰ² _ΰ²  Of course they do...

The Gamer's Club at my school didn't help either. 3 girls, 50 guys, 1 room. I quit that club. The boys in there smelled horrible. And I wasn't having any fun. And some of the guys treated me like I knew nothing about video games. Sadly, my high school only helps prove a lot of negative stereotypes.

Anyways....I like the stamp.

The only sport I like is Soccer (Futbol), mainly because it pisses of real sports fan. You may feel like a nerd, but you aren't. You're just part of the mass movement of denying mainstream culture to the point of being "ironic" and "indie" or whatever the hell it is you hipsters say. Real nerd is being one from the moment of birth. Day one to the end of the story. It's not something you can entirely brag about because it's not really a lifestyle choice. It doesn't just "happen" overnight. You can't wake one day and declare yourself a nerd. The Spark must be there before the Fire. As darkness precedes light, so does Spark precede Flame. Only when you can live with absolute certainty, not "absolute certainty", can you own your choices. To quote Andrew Ryan...."We all make our choices, but in the end, our choices make us." I bet you don't even know what philosopher Andrew Ryan was based on. If you can do that, then maybe, just maybe, I'll concede.

I used to play soccer when I was little, since my folks wanted me to get fresh air and interaction with other kids and whatnot. See, back then the Internet was practically unheard of, what with it being 1991 and all. My brother and I had just gotten the NES on Christmas and we were quite the pair of happy clams. While he preferred things like Tecmo bowl and I liked TMNT III: Manhattan Project, we could at least play co-op mode on Contra. Man, I loved Contra.

Anyway, I never once scored a goal in soccer, probably because I was a smaller, not-so-athletic kid; I could run but most of the other kids were faster. The one time I did have a chance to score a goal, I missed the opportunity because this kid Chris Klifto said I could borrow his issue of Nintendo Power where they talked about the SNES. Sure enough, he loaned it to me, but then he moved and I never got to give it back. I felt like a thief for a little while.

I know the NES wasn't the first video game system ever, but I've been playing ever since I was old enough to read. Since I'm 26 and I've been playing since I was 5, that equates to roughly 82% of my life spent with games, which are quite nerdy as one would imagine. Now I know that's not 100% but there was a sizable chunk of time before video games where I was learning things like walking, mastering the basic concepts of speech, and not pooping my pants.

Anyway, I think you need to reassess your definition of what "nerd" is. It's not an issue of "you either are a nerd, or you aren't" (remember, only a Sith deals in absolutes); you can be varying shades of it. And that's what's so great about it! There's no specific set of things you must like or dislike to qualify as a nerd. My brother (the aforementioned fan of Tecmo bowl) is still passionate about sports and can tell you anything you want to know about football (or "handegg", if you prefer to reserve the term "football" for soccer) or baseball, which makes him happy to be called a sports nerd. I, on the other hand, can tell you just about anything you want to know about Pokemon, and I wear the label "Pokemon nerd" like a badge of honor.

This brings me to my final point: When you label yourself one thing and one thing only, you limit yourself immensely. Yes, I am a nerd AND a hipster. You CAN be more than one thing at once! I'm also a musician, a writer, an artist, and a freethinker. I'm all of these things because I chose to be, which is why I am happy with these choices, as you put it, making me.

Andrew Ryan's the dapper fella from Bioshock! Hey, did you know if you take some of the letter from his name, it spells out Ayn Rand? She wrote this book called Atlas Shrugged with this dude named John Galt. Good book.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tagdeo33 In reply to quazo [2012-07-20 03:53:33 +0000 UTC]

Well argued and I respect the conclusion. I'm sure you can pardon my nerd rage as I can occasionally act impulsively. ADD, tons of coffee, and about twenty hours without sleep can do that to anyone. Also, I have a slight bipolar disorder, which is why I may seem suddenly apologetic. So If I seemed kind of "crazy" because I am. The thing that really got me was the Sith analogy and the Pokemon stuff. I've yet to find any fans of Pokemon I could talk to. Also, I know quite a bit about Ayn Rand. I've read Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, We the Living, Anthem, and I've studied quite a bit on her philosophies. All in all, I need to get some damn sleep before I kill someone.
