Description
One of the inspiring female artists I'm often referencing is Julia Margaret Cameron. She started photography later in life as a mother at the age of 48, and her work carries aspects of many classic Pre-Raphaelite artists. Often referencing poetry and classical Greek characters. her work has a soft painterly quality that I find irrestistable. For this series of photos, I wanted to riff off of her work and create a little something of my own, while also using quite a bit of film. It was a soft, overcast day with a sense of stillness that was perfect for what I had envisioned and I'm glad Chelsea was up for what turned out to be a rather slow day as I tried to make sense of my Yashica-D for the first time (and also stopping frequently to start shooting with a different camera). I doubt this will be a popular series, which ultimately doesn't matter much to me, because it was a personal project made purely for the joy of shooting it (film always gives me this personal feeling that's hard to describe). I can feel myself in these photos as strange as that may sound, a collective of my past, present, and future lives.Kodak Tri-X 400 35mm film, shot with Minolta Maxxum 7000
