Dear Queen_Kitty, I've seen this via Andorada's digital painting of your piece...
This baby love fits right into your palm, and your photograph reminds us that little creatures have the right to dream in a human hand... on one hand... On the other hand, we are way bigger and way more threatening than this sweet baby and that that same hand can trigger a rifle and hunt or kill this baby... In terms of the impact, it is the epitome of power and innocence.
The perfect alignment of the squirrel's paw with your own phalanxes transcribes this desire to protect harmless animals... I've personally set on a mission to feed them and love them since I was a kid...
This privileged boudoir photo is a rare sight <3

This is so incredibly adorable! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w⦠" width="23" height="15" alt="

" title="Heart" /> Being that this is a squirrel and the beginning of a new month, I could not pass up the opportunity to (A) Proclaim my undying love for these creatures, and (B) Try out this new "Critique" option.
Now that I've done the first part, it's onto the second! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w⦠" width="23" height="23" alt="
" title="w00t!" />
To begin, I am rather fond of the way you've captured this image. Truly. The colors are so lightweight and airy, and the muted lighting really softens the edges of this piece. The effect makes the entire photograph look so... delicate. Fragile. Yet beaming with strength. And, dare I say, hope? Nice detail on the fur, by the way. There are so many textures there, and you did a great job capturing them.
Whether or not you meant to do this, I am a big fan of the way you've focused on both the squirrel's arm and the smallest finger of the hand holding her -- as if to emphasize the "Little Things in Life" motif that runs through the deviation and the touching Artist Comments. Very nice!
Although I could go on forever listing every aspect of this photograph that I love (and how much I enjoyed the rest of your gallery, for that matter!), there were two things that struck me as a bit odd. I thought I'd bring them to your attention so that you could keep them in mind for future photographs. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/t/t⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="Thumbs Up" /> First, was the the dark-ish masses in the bottom-right and the top-left corners; and Second was the way the tip of the person's ring finger was cropped.
First, the masses: Those two blurry forms in the corners of your photograph tend to draw my attention away from the subject of the photograph. Were those intentional -- or just something you didn't notice in the background when you took the photograph? (I've done that sooo many times... e.deviantart.com/emoticons/i/i⦠" width="19" height="19" alt="
" title="Slow" /> xD). If it *was* an oversight, the upside is that it almost looks like you meant to include them since they're directly across from one another and similar in color. They sort of balance each other, and because the forms are indiscernible, they're not unforgivingly distracting --- so yay for that!
In the future, be careful photographing the 3D world: Some things just don't translate quite as well once they're smushed into two dimensions. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/w/w⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="Wink/Razz" />
Second, the cropped finger: To be honest, the only reason I noticed this was because of the aforementioned background blurs. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/x/x⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="XD" /> You've centered the squirrel quite wonderfully in this photograph, but overlooked the hand that held it. Be careful when photographing a subject that comes with its own frame (in this case, a hand). It's easy to overlook the edges of the natural frames we come across since they're not the direct subjects -- but if you keep an eye on things like this for your future photographs, you'll be happier for it in the long run.
e.deviantart.com/emoticons/t/t⦠" width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="Thanks for everything!" />
But! I digress: All in all, I love this photograph very, very much. You did a wonderful job. The photograph is alive, real, and heartfelt. (And it's a squirrel, which automatically makes it THAT much better. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/l/l⦠" width="23" height="16" alt="
" title="Love" /> xD) I'm glad you were able to find a caring home for this little squirrel.
Thank you so much for sharing, and congratulations on the Daily Deviation! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s⦠" width="17" height="16" alt="

Thank you so much for the amazing critique! This was actually taken about 1 1/2 years ago, so hopefully I've improved since then I actually didn't notice those two blurry forms in the background when I was taking it, one of them is actually my model's foot, my model was one of my younger cousins who was rather taken with the baby squirrel.
And I definitely will make sure not to cut off the finger in the picture again, I didn't even think about it because it wasn't my direct subject. Thank you again for the marvelous critique!

Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely photograph --- and keep up the wonderful work! While wandering through your gallery, I was quite fond of your "Road to Nowhere" and "Dog Days of Summer" photographs as well. You're right! Your photographs keep getting better and better!

LOL!! I couldn't help it!! I searched all over the place for something to Critique first.
And then poof! THIS showed up on the Daily Deviation Page one of those days -- and I loved it! The first thing that went through my mind was, "Aaaah! Miiiine! "
So yeah. I was a little biased.

Not only is this a Daily Deviation but you can't help but agree with what the sudjester put. You want to just reach out and hold the poor thing while whispering it'll be okay though you know it has no ruddy Idea what your saying. The artist truely captured the innocence in such a small creature and let the whole world see in something unique and special to this site. When you see this Divination you just stop, and when you stop it makes you think... Really think. And to myself I enjoyed what I like to believe the artist showed here. Inocence can be saved by the hands of man. Then again, that might not be what they're trying to say and I'm over thinging things again. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/a/a⦠" width="19" height="19" alt="

I like this deviation. That's a fact. One of the reasons I like it is because the "furry" in question here is not exactly a pet, but a wild animal. This, from a subjective, out-of-the-technical point of view, lends it an even deeper protective nature to the hand that is holding it, making this picture all the more intense.
Technically, the picture is good, but it has some quirks. While I do know this wasn't a full fledged modeling work (given the nature of the picture) there are things that could have been better worked. I don't know if it was a post process mishap or not, but the cut finger on the left (picture's right) distracts a bit. Why? Because the picture has a great flow. By following the path the pinky finger starts, we can see a spiraling structure on the picture, which is strenghtened by the little thing's tail. However, the flow is interrupted with that cut finger. It is damn minor, but, if you check my devs, for me flow is everything ^^
Moving on. Another tiny quirk I have is the excessive depth of field. While a good intention might be to focus attention on the squirrel, the excessive blur might distract a bit.
Now, now, now, these are MINOR quirks. Other than that, I find the light choice ideal, accentuating the dark hair tone of the thingy, and increasing the shine of the picture implicitly. The neutral background is also a good choice, allowing the viewer to focus on the theme almost exclusively.
A great picture, worthy of it's Daily Deviation status.

Thank you so much for the wonderful critique! I really appreciate it! I will definitely keep in mind all of the things everybody has been critiquing me on, everyone has been so sweet and helpful! And also not that I'm excusing myself, but this picture was actually taken about a year and a half ago, I've improved a lot since then, but this picture still does hold a special place in my heart. And I'm glad you found it special as well!

A beautiful and adorable piece of work, both in it's literal and metaphorical meaning. The image of a baby squirrel sleeping in a human hand simply, but brilliantly portray both trust and innocence. The focus also seems to be well thought-out, with the soft textures of the squirrel's fur, the birstly texture of the tail and the contours of the face and head - which captures the adorable 'expression' of the sleeping child - of the squirrel brought into relief. However, I would only suggest moving the hand inward so as to show all fingers, thumb included, and so as to focus attention completely on the hand and squirrel: the background, although indistinct, is somewhat distracting. Otherwise, this work is a beautiful highlight in the Deviantart community and beautifully portrays the simple miracles of life, which man sometimes overlooks.
