I lost my loneliness today.
I scraped and brushed it
into the paint with blunt force.
It's over there on the canvas
covered with brushstrokes,
and my body aches
with the pain of letting it go,
of throwing it away.
It cried as I spread it thick with paint,
so I turned up my music louder
until its cries were drowned out.
The sorrow crept in,
so I painted more fiercely,
tiptoed and slipping in the wet paint,
drowned the canvas in water
until the harshness faded away.
The loneliness was still there,
but it wasn't mine anymore.

Strong internal rhythm muted just enough so the discovery at the end does not present as a little conceit, but as a resolution. Would the poem be even stronger without the second to last line?

Well, you kinda nailed it, because I do use writing as art therapy, doesn't mean the results aren't sometimes a little cheesy

I had to wait a bit anf think before writing anything, because I find it really striking and powerful! A really beautiful poem! I don't think it's violent, though... I empathize with it, it looks familar to me, and at the same time brand new (does it make any sense?). And what a coincidence: I submited two short stories today, one from 2012 and one I finished yesterday (only in Portuguese). I write a lot, actually (most of it is handwritten).
