This picture s just a theory I have:In the last episode you can see Pyrrha walking into an elevator while Ozpin speaks about the chosen guardian.
And because of that malicious little smile, which doesn't fit with Pyrrha, I think that the Pyrrha we see there is actually Neopolitan.

Sooo according to the rwby preview, guardian pyrrha is confirmed (or close to be) ;w; Aaand she seems normal but who knows maybe Neo/Em are good actress xD

But maybe the Pyrrha stepping into the elevator isn't the same Pyrrha talking with Ozpin. Maybe Ne just draws the profit from knowing that Pyrrha is the guardian.

That was also Neo disguised as Yatsuhashi she was staying invisible and sneaked in the fight to help her team. That's why she wasn't in the crowd. Plus every time we see Cinders team in the room Neo is missing so she was doing spy missions disguised as different people.

That's almost impossible and not very likely. It's an official tournament, there is camera everywhere, a lot of people are watching, and there is a forcefield around the combat zone. Neo had no way to get in. And there is no reason she had to do so because Em and Merc are already powerful. They don't need help. And I don't think they would risk to be disqualified with an external intervention, honestly.
And I guess the reason why Neo is always missing, maybe she has another role in Cinder's plan. They needed her for their fake team, now the team round is over, they don't need her with them anymore. And we don't even know if Neo is just a very good hired-killer-or-something, someone who's Roman partner, or something else (besides the team fight Neo was always with Roman so...). But Cinder/Neo/Mercury/Emerald is not an official team, they're not teammate/partner, for sure. And a last thing, Neo has never be seen with the 3 others, in the room or elsewhere, except in the tournament match.

They rigged the matches. Fighting 3 on 2 isn't beneath them. I'm pretty the terrain was was also chosen to be in their favor.

But they didn't need it so why should they do that?
Mercury was strong enough to fight against both of them and had no problems to block yatsuhashis really strong hit.
And in the forrest Emerald had the upper hand even without any help.
Why should they risk to be kicked out of the battle if they had no problem defeating their enemies on their own?

My main reason is of a writing nature. They cant have two members of the same team have similar powers, illusions, that's bad writing. So I'm backtracking and trying to explain why an image of Yatsuhashi was there. Neo was confirmed to have mirror illusion like powers with the escape with Roman and changing her eyes in the first fight. If Emerald has illusion powers as well that would ruin the diversity of the team. So the only answer is that Neo was in the arena somehow.

And I have two possibilities in mind:
I don't think that the powers of Neo and Emerald are the same.
But maybe Emerald can't create illusions like Neo but really shapeshift herself.
That sounds kind of similar but it doesn't have to. I can think of the possibility that Neo can create the illusion arround her body while Emeralds body changes to the body she likes to have.
My second guess is:
Yeah maybe your right and it was one of Neos illusions but I think she can make them from further away. When she fled with Roman from Team Rwby her illusions were still there even when she was gone.
So Neo did't have to in the arena

Thats the point. Such a smile only makes sense when she planned long before to become the guardian. But why should she? What's her benefit? And did she even know that a guardian would be chosen?

What if (bare with me) it's like Sailor Moon. When Mina pretend 2 b princess until Usagi was ready. Plus if that smile was really just 2 throw us 4 a loop, do we really think Ozpin would've Ruby just like that? They're know their enemy is amongst them, so what better way 2 stall then 2 present a fairly well-known figure? I'm pretty Cinder isn't that ignorant enough 2 take out Pyrrha right away.
(Sorry, I saw the teaser 4 the next episode and this theory seemed plausible. But Qrow did NOT look happy in the slightest...)

In chapter one of the new Volume you can see a little flashback when emerald thinks about their first fight. In their team there seems to be a new character until her eyes change from a bright green to brown and pink
