Well, Frozen was inspired by Wicked, so...
Idina Menzel as a distant royal with unstable elemental powers (fire or ice) who, opposite a bubbly Kristin (Chenoweth as Galinda and Bell as Anna), ends up cast out of their home (Munchkinland post-farmhouse drop death of Nessarose for Elphaba and Arenadale [sp?] for Elsa) and deemed a threat by the corrupted people in charge (crooked headmistress of Shiz University, Madame Morrible and worst-father-ever in the Great Humbug, Oscar "OZ" Diggs for Elphaba and temporary ruler Hans and the greedy Duke for Elsa), only to sing a liberating song about being free of the shackles that bound them ("Defying Gravity" & "Let It Go"), before almost fatally wounding a loved one ("No Good Deed" for Elphaba and "Frozen Heart" for Elsa), and eventually, being redeemed (sort of, as Elphaba's redemption is musical-only, not in the book, as she dies for real in that, just as Elsa the Snow Queen, like Elphaba as The Wicked Witch of the West, was originally meant to be lead villain, and as you know all too well in fairy tales and the Disney movies based upon them, the villain dies). Elphaba and Elsa even have familiars, with Elphaba having her wolves, crows, bees, and eventually just the winged monkeys (most notably Chistery, who is actually Nikko in the 1939 MGM film ("Take your army to The Haunted Forest & bring me that girl and her dog; do what you like with the others, but I want her alive and unharmed. They'll give you no trouble, I promise you that. I've sent a little insect out on ahead to take the fight out of them. *Omitted Jitterbug scene* Take care of those ruby slippers, I want those most of all. Now fly. Fly!") and Truckle in the 1990 DiC animated cartoon made for the film's 50th anniversary that saw the remaining winged monkey use her hat, cape, and reclaimed broomstick to make a statue of her that suddenly brings her back alive, as voiced by Tress MacNeille), whereas Elsa has Marshmellow (the giant snow monster) and Olaf, the living snowman. "For the First Time in Forever" also channels "No One Mourns the Wicked/Food Good", too.
