Description My first finished skyline. Must have been my fifth or sixth attempt.
I learned a lot while doing this. Especially how to properly use dithering to blend colours.
I worked out how to make clouds as well, but the image looked better without them. I might do an extra piece with them later though.

I think this looks amazing! I have only done one skyline, and it was in a 3 colour limit challenge. This looks alive, and a beautiful sky creating an ambient feeling

Thank you!
I do have trouble choosing a right colour palette, so I went for a dark violet/grey for the night view. There is still so much to learn but it's quite fun

did you make the gradient in the background yourself?

Sure. Would be rather pointless to use other people's work for basic stuff like this. Like I said, I learned a lot about dithering this way.
It took me quite a while to get right though. I'm still seeing squares everywhere when I close my eyes xD

i normally use paint.net's gradient tool; that's why i asked

Is it still considered pixel art if you use that? I don't think the effect would be the same because there would be too many colours.

i didn't know pixel art had an upper colour limit.
and where is the line for tools you can use, and tools you can't? someone tried to say that the fill bucket tool made it not pixel art

it just doesn't have this special look anymore, if you ask me. What I like about pixel art is that you can see every single pixel when you zoom in. You can basically take any piece and see how the artist has drawn it. That's not possible with gradients because you don't see the individual pixels. That's why I prefer this technique. It might take longer but I love this look

it seems we make pixel art with different reasons and goals. however listening to yours caused thought and will most likley change what i do

it would be boring if everyone did the same anyway

how much the amount of effort may be, you did a good job!

This brings back Memories when I played Simcity. (and what i still play by the way, but with more improved mayor skills.)

Thank you!
Oh, I love SimCity! I had the very first one (it was called SimTown, I believe) and every version after that.
I love "Cities: Skylines" a bit more than the newest SimCity, though. It has awesome fan-made content on Steam
Sorry, fangirling xD
