if someone ends up making this giant and filling it with beanbag filling post how well it functions for sitting cos i'm thinking of doing that....

Well, damned if that isn't a fun idea!
I don't think anybody's done it yet, but I imagine it would actually function very well. Specifically, the uniformity of the design ensures that pressure from anyone sitting on the ball would be spread out over all the seams... You'd need a durable material and a tough enough needle, though, cause felt is not good for beanbags. ;_;
Alternately, higher-grade fleece bought in yards from the fabric store might work VERY well. o.o
