We hold on to each other

All we have is all we need

We always make it, you and me

Personality:

Loyal and protective:
Nothing means more to Anundr than the people in his life. His friends and the mare who raised him. He cherishes the social bonds he makes far beyond himself. There is little that he wouldn’t do to be there for them. To help them and keep them safe.

Kind and thoughtful:
Anundr is almost always thinking of others and even from when he was a wanderer always had a friendly word for a stranger, the offer of a place at his fire, or a share of his food if others need it. Sometimes all that is needed to make the world a gentler and warmer place is to give and show some care to others.

Open and honest:
What you see is what you what you get with Anundr. Maybe it was his time being raised by a blunt and very straight speaking sorceress who had a gift for predicting a foal’s nonsense and mischief,  but he tends to feel that honesty is the best policy and besides he makes a pretty bad liar. Though he still sugar coats to try and avoid hurting feelings. His heart is practically an open book

Easy going and playful:

For the most part Anundr is as free and easy as the wind. He has a good natured kind of humour and playful nature that can be infectious and rather morale boosting. However he has a habit of trying to use humor to lighten moods even if it may not be entirely appropriate. Its his coping mechanism when times are bad, trying to find the silver lining and the smallest humor in a situation to make it feel more manageable to him and hopefully others. That can annoy others and give the impression that he also takes nothing seriously.

Trusting/naive:
Anundr tends to believe the best of others and has an easy time seeing and trusting in peoples good qualities. This said he is pretty guileless and his easy friendly nature makes him fairly easy to deceive or take advantage of.  He’s not stupid but suspecting the worst of others intentions is hardly his first instinct.

Lazy and Atychiphobic:
To say he is lazy is only half a truth. He does work hard and won’t shirk or half ass a duty, but he is a stallion who likes to indulge in what makes him happy and comfortable, extra sleep, bit of food. Until he joined the Vindicators he had no more aspiration than to wander Hireath and see the sights and wonders of the world and maybe find out why he was cast aside by his mother.
However much he is for the cause and liberation and protection of people a part of him can’t help but miss the freedom to take the day as it came and the luxury of doing absolutely nothing and not having the stress of knowing that lives are on the line. Part of it is rooted in fear of failing. You can’t fail if you aren’t trying and until recently that was fine. no one is really affected by a traveler and storyteller who does nothing.  Even when he so badly wants to try though like his recent choice to become a cadet of the vindicator’s to try and do some good in the world, he finds himself very much afraid of being more a hindrance than anything else.

Self doubting:
As said before, Anundr wants to be strong, brave and useful. To protect who he cares for. But he is not the most confidant of stallions in himself. He has a pretty low sense of self worth He’s afraid of failing everyone down and being as undeserving of the trust or faith placed in him as he fears he is deep down at his core. He fears that at his core he is a coward. Especially when he compares himself to all the equine around him, his friends, his loved ones, his comrades all who he can’t help but admire. They are the kinds of horses legends are written about

History:

His life began in the hut of a hedgewitch known as Radha born in the middle of particularly foul early autumn weather. And though he remembers nothing of that time three months later he was returned to said witch by his mother.

“Oh joy. My reward for bringing a kid into the world” she’d said, dryly and had not been pleased when her questions of why exactly she was dumping her crotch fruit on her doorstep, were met with cryptic cloak and dagger bullshit about how the less known the better. All while the mares had been talking, Anundr had fallen asleep and his little snores filled the room.

“Please It’d be dangerous to take him with me…”

“...Fine I guess he's sleeping by my fire now. So I don't want you waking him anyway and making him cry. I do enough raising of the dead without that racket encouraging them!”.

According to Radha the mare had stayed only long enough to nuzzle his forehead and whisper something to him before she left. That is all Anundr knows of his early life as it was all the witch could tell.

Not knowing why she left him that night has played on his mind quite a bit over the years. Though his guardian had said they didn't 'want' to leave him. Had Radha been mistaken or trying to spare his feelings? Had it been at all his fault? Had he been a bad son or a disappointment to them? ...had he just been plain unwanted? Was Radha going to leave him to?

“Oh please. If I was going to leave, I would have when you were knocking over potions, rolling in my herb garden, and leaving little messes in my house!” Radha had said when he had voiced that last fear “No, you are stuck with me i'm afraid. ”

Which did make Anundr feel a bit better about his last anxious question and began him wanting to help out his surrogate mother. She wouldn’t let the clumsy colt near the potions but she eventually began to teach him some survival skills. How to start a fire, how to makeshift a bandage for a wound. Most importantly for a foal who was a stomach with legs, how to find and identify things that were edible vs that which was poisonous, he was something of an unofficial apprentice to the craft for a time

Despite Radha being a hermit, Anundr did not truly lack for socialisation. To Radha’s partial annoyance, as she had some fairly frequent callers on her services, for potions, for tarot readings, herbs and healing. All manner of stuff, mostly of vagabonds but occasionally the odd herd horse would come to see the hypnotic witch of the wilds who despite Radha warning him against bothering her clients. Anun found much joy in speaking with them. Gaining knowledge about the world that lay beyond Radha’s hut. Those tidbits of knowledge became a little bit more of a hunger as the tales of strangers wove a spell over him sparking the fire that would grow into a desire for adventure.

Radha eventually took him further a field and annually started taking him to the wordsmith gatherings in Sirith. Which she thought he would enjoy. In part he absolutely did. The stories, songs, the music, even the foood (ok especially the food) even learned a few and took interest in learning an instrument but half of his attention was on watching the people and becoming disappointed as he had hoped to spy some look for any horse who resembled him. But there was no one and every year the cycle would repeat.

When Anundr was twenty one, he decided he told Radha that he was thankful that she raised and cared for him as long as she had. But he wanted to try and find his parents or at least find out what happened to them, he also wanted to see the world, and see its wonders.

She gave him the necklace he still wears to this day telling him that it was a protective charm and he was welcome to crawl back to her if he needed to. He at least knew one place where he could get his butt healed

The world was not the great playground he thought it was and it knew how to leave scars Radha said which drew Anundr’s attention to the slaver brand on her gold and black shoulder. She’d never explained it, seeing no real use in speaking of the past. But he’d long ago pieced together in bits of conversation, that she had once been an aodhian slave who had escaped and started this life she had, with the help of vindicators. The mark though remained.

The goodbyes were surprisingly emotional and after a lengthy rundown of survival and reminders of edible plants and healing herbs, because Radha was worried that he may have forgotten half of what she’s taught him over the years. He set off on his own adventure

He spent four years as a wanderer, and storyteller. The time in between word festivals, which he made a point of attending every year, he had some scrapes with wildlife, the occasional bandit attack, (those Anundr felt were especially rude since he had been willing to share his fire and meals. They also seemed to think he actually had shards too. Strange strange folk indeed.)

All the while though he felt the lonely nature of this world trot adventure grate on him a little as he drifted alone and aimless. Sure here and there he’d have some company at a fire, or even a travelling companion or two for awhile but nothing long lasting. Often they would meet travel a distance laughing and joking and of course go their separate ways, never to see each other again most likely. Ships in the lonely  night.

The most recent event happened as night fell and he saw the light of a campfire not too far off from him, and he saw someone lying next to the blaze. He’d been lucky in his foraging and had actually found quite a bit of delicious fruit for his dinner. He thought he’d see if his fellow traveller might be happy to trade food for a spot at their fire and an exchange of stories beneath the stars. The worst they say is no after all...or pull a knife on him to leave the food and go away from his own fire. Those people must have been super desperate.

As he got closer though he realize something was off, the unicorn mare he’d seen was bound and gagged shaking her head at him and trying to say something to him as she struggled against her bonds. He rushed to her and pulled the gag off before biting at the ropes.

“Run! It’s a trap!”

That was all the warning he had before he was attacked on all sides and ropes were around his neck. He found out pretty quickly what these horses were about. They were slavers.

Trying to transport Anundr and the mare who he learned was named Alida to Aodh was a slower process than they liked, and when the slavers were distracted or sleeping Alida and Anundr would speak quietly and Alida hatched a plan. with each others help. the two got free and knocked out the slavers allowing them to escape.

Alida later told Anundr that he hadn’t handled himself to bad and asked if he'd be willing to travel with her to meet and talk to 'a friend' of hers. he agreed and ultimately the friend turned out to be a keeper and that they were both vindicators and Alida thought he could be an asset to the cause with training.

It was a spur of the moment decision to join as he honestly he thought it was the kind of thing that sounded like something really worth doing. To help and protect others, like they had once freed the mare who had been a mother to him for as long as he could remember.

He was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar face in among his fellow cadets. A stallion by the name Bishop Crux who he’d helped out once some time ago when both were just fellow travellers. He was glad to see him again and to know that he knew at least more than one horse among the vindicators

Which brings him to the present day in training for duty and wondering just how in over his head he is.
