My entry for the Dark Shadows Johnny Depp portrait contest. This was a lot of fun to do. This was done in Adobe Illustrator CS4 with the pencil tool, the pen tool, and the direct selection tools.Related content

Woah...having a '70's flashback! Those colors are every bit as groovy as I remember back then. You artists who use these computer methods astound me. This would make a great poster. I love all of the detail work, especially in his expression, his clothing, and accoutrements such as the ring and the cane. Far Out!

This one is definitely creative and keeps the feel of the 70s/comedy aspect of the film. Love the cane and the little touches of texture.

The way in which you create the abstract shapes, layered on top of each other in different opacities, breaking down the form into it shadows, highlights, colors and then creating visual interest by breaking those shapes out. You have those key parts that make the features recognizable, but blast the rest of it out to create an image that is energetic. It's like you have a precise portrait with an abstract portrait existing at the same time. I'm still learning the basics, and am anxious for when I can play with my work more beyond simple representation.
