Description This is a contest entry piece for 's deep fantasy contest.

The theme of this piece centers around a sea sprite contemplating a pearl of wisdom.

The three central images and the upper portion of the background are from
The bottom portion of the background with the rocks and the waves is from The rock that the sea sprites are sitting on is also from from the nature stock photo Mossy Rock.

The wave brushes in the background and the sea sprite wings and tail whispy curls are from
The mermaid tails fins, the pearl, and the bottom magical portion over lay are all of my creation.

I really like this image, I love the colourful waterfall and the effect on the sea.and their colours, even if I would made the mermaid more soft with the bg colours palette but this is just my point of view.
My only critique is that the 2 mermaid (red and green) seem floating over the waves..
With just 1 more layer with some more waves they should be placed better.

Yeah sigh! It would have been nice to enter it, but I was soo pressed for time because of the horse show.
You're right about the worst work possibilites, but at least I got something in.

I'm not meaning you did a bad work at all! I was talking about my experience!
When I'm under pressure for time I do horrible things and you did a nice image even if now that I saw your gallery I know you can do much better!I would like to see this pic redone with the skills I found in all your works, it's a shame that just for a little detail it's not one of the other wonderful pics you have in your gallery!I hope to see it soon finished with not pressure!
Sincerly
Lara

hi Lisa!

Nice pic, I would have to say I like how you have the bright green on the rock under the orange mermaid, that ties them in nicely. To me it feels as though the water and waterfall are frozen in time, and it is then in these moments that one can see what truly live in the water. That is a nice touch! I see in other comments that you have stated you are going to keep working on it so cool I will check in to see it later as well.

Hope your cous did well at the horse show!

Wow! I love the sprite lights (hee!) behind the waterfall and the water itself, the big moon and how you've composed the sprites beneath that rock archway. You don't go overboard on vivid color so the ones you do use stand out in a very flattering way.

Only major problem I see is the sprites are 'floating' over the boulder they're sitting on and don't quite look as if they're seated. One help for that would be to place deeper shadow beneath their legs to match the lighting/shadow you used on the rock, plus, on the sprite on the left, have that cascade of water flow partly over her and around her body--maybe have part of the lower sprites' tails submerged too. Problem is the tails are really pretty! Maybe if you moved them up a tad, so they can stay above the waterline?

Yeah, lol this piece is rather rushed, and it shows. I had to leave for Fort Worth for a horse show the next day, and I stayed up til like 4am to get it as complete as I could before I left and make the contest submission deadline. So, yup I agree with you about the shadowing and the placement. However, if I move them up the wings get all mixed up. Maybe I should make the rock bigger and that would help in keeping them out of the water line.

I like the look and feel of it...
But I can't help but feel that their breast coverings, tails, and wings could be done a bit more realistically.

Yes they could. As I stated above this was a rather rushed piece to make the deadline. I will probably revamp it and resubmit it in my gallery. I was pushing to make the deadline.

Well, it's got faults ....... Which will need to be fixed. However, I love the way the waterfall in the background came out.
