I love your usage of color in this work; the purples, reds, and blues are extremely good at drawing viewers attentions without looking to jarring. The black and blood-red around the eyes contrast very nicely with the bright purple of the hair.
The explosion, while a tad dark in some areas (the black splotches) actually looks rather nice and further provides contrast with the darker character. I would be tempted to say that a graffiti-purple explosion would match the coloration of the character, but I actually think the warm colors used are a much better choice. The color and shape of the smoke trails look like something out of a cartoon and beautifully match the fire. Could use a bit more practice, sure, but a very good start.
And that pose...I can tell that she must be a real jerk.Β
Might I ask what is challenging about backgrounds?

I've done a bit with backgrounds myself, though not with a computer. I find it funny that you're great at drawing characters but seek to work on drawing backgrounds, while I am good at drawing backgrounds but not very good with characters.
Is it the style of background that trips you up? You can draw weapons and armor rather well, so I would imagine that you would be able to draw backgrounds in a similar style. I'd guess that you're trying to go for a more painting-like appearance similar to the art of Magic the Gathering; your lines in this piece are not black like the character, but are colors that can blend together to form an image.
Also, who's Cedric?

gah dang it I meant critic i'm my own worst critic.
but really i have no idea why. I wanted to go for more painting style at first but that just as much work but i think it just on how then should be place. I do not want the character too like there out of the setting. like they would look out of place or something.Β

Have you tried a style similar to the art you already do? Considering your success with the PokΓ©mon armor, I'm sure you could make something neat with your ownΒ comic-esque style!

I like to see artists evolve their crafts. It's so satisfying to see them find their styles and see what works.
