Quiet-Imps β€” Why is 6 afraid of 7?

Description Oh yes, I went there.

But never the less, OVERUSED JOKE IS OVERUSED

I wasn't as keen on the execution of the movie, but I fell in love with the concepts and visuals. I can't help but adore the stitchpunks, especially in character design. 6 has pen nibs for fingures. PEN GODDAMN NIBS.

Drawing that damn helmet sent me into all kinds of unsightly stress, I can't find any good references outside of a few angle shots in the trailers. Blegh, I do hope to get more practice in with them later.

This also gave me an excuse to use the nifty logo made for me. Isn't that nice?

Appologies if this comment seems a little rushed and distorted. I'll fix it later.

I dont' think this needs a mature warning, does it?

It's not vore.

EDIT: God DAMN, I didn't realize just how overused this joke actually is. D: Fffff....

Consuming 9 must invoke some very engaging philosophical thoughts and concepts.

Or he's just really chewy.

7 doesn't have teeth, so I'm guessing that's what's engaging her.
Did I mention that I love how 6's hair is sticking up?

xDD At the time that was an unintentional flop (Hurhur, Failure to look up reference), but I'm glad it's at least amusing.

Btw, I totally agree with your opinion on the film. "It had so much potential..." lol, in the words of the scientist. It was too scary for kids but too simplistic for adults. He needed to target an audience.
I think that it definitely brought up some wonderful themes and I did enjoy analyzing it, but the cliches and repetitiveness of some of the actions were a tad annoying. Shane Acker really had something promising, but he didn't execute it well. I'm kindof wishing he could do a re-do in a few years? lol I did find a deeper appreciation for some very simplistic parts of the film, since I had seen the short beforehand. Acker included some very strong parallels to the original short in some scenes and I really enjoyed that. If you haven't seen the short yet I recommend it. It can be found on youtube.

Now, I do love the movie simple from a design aspect. The post-apocalyptic setting is both eerie and beautiful, and the found-object monsters are sleek machines created from junk, which I find most impressive; especially the ones that incorporate the skeletons of humans and other animals. And of course, what I love the most about the film are the stitch-punks. Their design is just something to love, and yeah, 3+4 are my fave, 6 coming in second. They are just... agh, love. haha I enjoy drawing them. They have so much personality, even without dialogue.

ANYWAYS. haha. I like this.

First let me say: I love commenters like yourself DD:

I agree, too graphic and frightnening for children, but in a sense it doesn't take it's adult audience seriously enough. It's too simplistic as you've stated, and when it came to the stitchpunks being capped one by one, I oddly couldn't care. Granted I thought it sucked, but they didn't give anyone enough time to connect with the stitchpunks. 9 seemed too empty and lacked his own flare, so in a sense he was kinda forgettable.

I did see the short film, after the movie xD But never the less I found myself enjoying the story of it a little more. I liked the way you sorta had to assume what went on, and the only thing you could really be sure of is that 9 was being tailed by the cat beast and had to destroy it to survive/out of vengence. That's what made me like the 9 in THAT film, you could sympathise much more when you see he was all alone and his last/only friend was destroyed. I think the silence also reeled me in a bit more, but it's hardly ever that movies with silent characters hit the big screen these days.

So yes, Again I agree. Design wise, the movie was substantially creative with the machines (My buddy would ingeniously describe the B.R.A.I.N. as the Robotic McGyver)and the grungy tones gave it a very dark beauty. I loved that the "Only hope for our world" was an assortment of tenachious little dolls rather than giant fighting machines. If they executed that a little better, I think that would've been one hell of an impact.

Appologies for the rant, I like talking about this subject xD Thank you for the kind comment!

nonono I love the rant. haha it's like mine. I'm not the only one!

Yeah, 9 was definitely very empty, but then again he was the newest so idk? I know what you mean when you say that you didn't really care that the stitchpunks were being killed, it was kindof like "Op! There goes another one!" (Didn't see that one coming. haha)

Although it was extremely clichΓ©, I did like the scene with "Somewhere over the Rainbow". You totally knew what was going to happen, but it was still a nice scene. It was refreshing.

The short is great, and I agree with the whole silence aspect. I think that's why I love 3 + 4. And I could o on for ages about the design of the film... so I won't start. From what I gather, you and I share the same opinion, so I think you know exactly how I feel. I say REBOOT!!! haha it could be amazing.

I have some sketches I'm going to upload soon. I'd love for you to check them out when I do!

Quiet-Imps In reply to hace1epues [2009-09-25 04:43:12 +0000 UTC]

Agreed. That Rainbow sceen was oddly precious, and it made me love 3, 4, and 6 more xD "Ssssoooooooooound~" Not to mention the whole thing with Brain was cool. Expected, but cool.

And yes, it is nice to find another person who feels about the same way I do. I'd also LOVE to see your sketches when you post them, so I'll keep a look-out!

But just to clarify once before this discussion comes to it's close, I actually liked the B.R.A.I.N. character a bit. Seemed like he was sorta innocent before they took his creator away, then sorta cracked under the pressure humans put him through. I feel like there was more hidden character there that could have also been emphasized on. What do you think?

hace1epues In reply to Quiet-Imps [2009-09-26 00:50:08 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the B.R.A.I.N had so much depth... from what we saw of his story he (it?) is almost like the tragic hero of a greek play. I wish Acker had done a bit more than skimmed the surface for all of the characters. I would not have minded to watch a 5 hour long film if I actually got a connection out of it.
