Description I saw it yesterday in the theatre and I had to draw it.. I'm like that.. so yeah, here's yet another pic within the same week. This is a new record, I swear.

Also, I'm aware Miyazaki usually puts more detail into his contraptions and backgrounds than he does his characters, so I kind of got more detailed with Howl and Sophie than they usually appear.. oh well.

The eyes look alittle odd - the irises look odd. And the part between Sophie's nose and mouth looks like it's mutated together. - Other than that I love this piece! <3

LOL. You're all right, though. I was in England last summer and I'm coming back this summer.. more than half the movies, books, ect. I've seen already aren't there yet and no one has a clue as to what they are. The only thing they get early is the Harry Potter series. For me, that's no sacrifice. And what the heck.. a curling iron is 'curling tongs'? Weirdos...

I love this picture you did really capture his style of drawing and I love the background cos in Howl's moving castle they put a lot of effeort in the background but you characters are more detailed so that makes up for it!!!!!!I love that film so much, it came out in England in September I think it may be even later than Germany....sorry sad that England is so slow at getting everything...

Awesome picture, from an awesome movie! The only good thing about evacuating from that last hurricane was that the movie was showing in Gainesville, so I got to see it twice while I was there.

Mackeriffic In reply to ??? [2005-07-12 22:47:05 +0000 UTC]

Heh, you know, I like it with the higher concentration of detail on the characters than the background. Feels kind of weird to say that, as back when I had time to do finished-quality cartoony things with backgrounds (CENTURIES AGO, or something), I kinda had to push myself to get them done up to the same quality as the characters, but that was more because I had no experience with drawing anything that wasn't alive. Now I've got a fine arts degree and I can draw an elderly man's back muscles like a total mofo, but I can't draw a landscape or city street worth shit.

Uh, the point to that whole rant is that your background here is better than any background I've done in five years. Which is why I'm too embarrassed to put up anything other than photowork and wallpapers. Until then, you are now one of my Heroes of Backgrounding! You'll go on the stalking list just under ~retrolex , but only because she draws the best coniferous trees in the whole damn universe.

Whoa, thanks for the awesome comment! I went and checked out this goddess of coniferous trees and you're right! I had to favorite it, she was so awesome. Thanks for the honor - I'm glad to be righ tunder the evergreen-tree deity!

Mackeriffic In reply to Quietharm [2005-07-13 03:52:08 +0000 UTC]

She is great at them, isn't she? I think it's because she grew up way out in Wild Canada, so she drew 'em a lot, but then again, she can also draw a damn good cactus.

And you're welcome! I'm glad you find it an honor... I was a little worried that it might sound stalkerish. That sky and the rocks were too much not to mention it, though-- especially the rocks. How'd you get them to look so solid while the picture has that cool narrow focus thing going?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quietharm In reply to Mackeriffic [2005-07-13 04:04:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, the rocks... LOL. Okay, filters. Lots and lots of filters. You add all these paint colors (big globs of them) and then put them into some kind of rock shape. Then you go through the PS filters like a (well, mofo) to get the right effect. From there, it's gaussian blur! ...And that explains the rocks. And no, it's not stalkerish in the least!
