Description
In about sixth grade i went swimming in a lake and almost drowned (my friend saved me at the last second). A few years after that my mom took me to swimming lessons at the YMCA for six weeks. I love the water, but I am too scared to fully submerge my head, having water in my head-holes brings back unwanted memories, so obviously i had a lot of trouble relaxing enough to even learn to float. As i spent time in the gigantic pool and tried holding my head underwater, i developed an entirely new, different and strange fear of the strange depth-distortion-visuals you see when you look to the other end of a long pool with lots of water in it. I still have nightmares about looking into giant water tanks and the vision is all skewed. When mixed with all the water pressure particularly on my chest when submerged, it creates an intense feeling of impending doom. That's what this painting is all about! (i made it with gouache, which is my new favorite medium, and i hope you enjoy it! note the special goggles and earplugs that cover ALL the head holes...hehe)
