Just in case the more sea turtle based colours of my original version was not preferable.Since the kaiju of the Legendary Godzillaverse are waaaay before the dinosaurs and reptiles of the dinosaur eras, I wanted to make Rodan have a clearly non-pterosaur structure, but similar.
Rodan's wings are much like a sea turtle's flipper, but developed for flight rather swimming.
The wing membranes connect to the tail, forming a cape of thick skin. On land this makes for great defense.

Wicked idea, honestly that seems like something that may actually be plausible with Rodan's protective belly. If I may ask? Could I use this in my work for reference? Credits to the artist behind this of course.

Due to the nuclear age being before Dinosaurs, I decided to base this Rodan off of something non-pterosaur. Marine Reptiles often had flippers, so my idea was flippers that evolved intio wings. Sea Turtles are the only modern reptile with flippers like ancient marine reptiles, so I used a sea turtle as inspiration.
Its more obviousΒ in the previous version of this were I used Green Sea Turtle colours.

Lovely lovely Idea actually. But turtles did not evolve till after the dinosaurs. Though turtle relatives were around during the permion era but they did not have a shell of these extra wide shells, just a thick carrapac.

To be fair I said "like" a sea turtle, so my Rodan likely has no true relation to turtles, other than being a reptile, and much like legendary godzilla it's exact place in the animal kingdom is a mystery.
I was not aware turtle evolution was so late however, so thank you for that info!

I see what you're doing here, but seeing as Kong is one of the kaiju on Legendary's roster now, I wouldn't be surprised if they do end up sticking with Rodan's pterosaurian origin (which I am 100% ok with).

Im hoping they go for the long dormant ancient reptile of the original showa film, but yeah most likely we'll get a pure pterosaur.

Actually, Rodan was specifically stated to be a species of Pteranodon in the 1956 film. That being said - if they DO go with that origin, I hope he's at least relatively anatomically accurate, I.E.- quadrupedal locomotion, properly attached wing membranes, etc.

Yeah the other one was more experimentation, so I did this recolour as this redish-brown colour is pretty much a significant part of Rodan's design.

I don't mind the "Sea Turtle" coloration, though I also like this coloration as well.
