When you're too lazy to actually draw, so you look up a "base" on deviantart to have as a cop-out for an actual drawing. Thank you soo much for making the art community that much more skilled.

I actually do not do it for people who are lazy, is for those who do not really have the talent to make a drawing that represents what they want C:

I understand fully, but I think you're straying away from the idea that is 'art'. (I apologize for being disrespectful before, but I needed to get my point across.)

Art - the expression or application of human creative SKILL and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.

What I'm saying here is that people need to work on their skill, not their talent. Art is not usually talent. If you haven't noticed already, skill and talent are two different things.

Talent - natural aptitude or skill

Now, people can have a talent with art, but it is rare. No average person wanting to go to pencil and paper is going to be good at art, unless they have been practicing for years and years. You, for one, are not helping with these bases. I think the bases are well drawn, but you have the potential to do so much better work with them. Again, I implore you to encourage others to practice drawing their own creations, instead of encouraging the shoehorning of your own creations into other people's inexperienced artwork. I encourage you to keep drawing, and to put life into your work as well; give it emotion and beauty.

You know, art elitists such as yourself who don't respect people who use bases for any given reason, is the very reason why most base artists lose their respect to actual artists.

People use bases for different reasons such as the following:

  • They cannot draw and they really want to get their ideas out. Even if it turns out not very decent, they at least got what they originally wanted to draw out of their system, even if it's through the use of bases.
  • Bases actually helps study anatomy if the base is from a certain series, so using bases helps study on that anatomy, while also practicing the hair and clothes of that style as well.
  • Some work on bases to cope with certain things, sometimes using bases can be meditating. Sure drawing can also help cope or vent through any emotional, or mental struggle, but bases work the same way as drawing, only working on a base is literally the same difficulty as drawing with a pencil and paper, yet despite that, it's actually much less stressful to work with than doing your own original style because you actually have something already planned out for you and you don't have to put too much thought into how you want your work to turn out. You just go all out with it. That's kind of the point with bases anyways.
  • Some just use them for shits n giggles
  • Others use it just to create reference sheets for profile on characters that they created and can look back to it and use it for when they make requests and such.
  • And sometimes, they are used to practice editing skills if they ever decide to branch into PhotoShop.
There's quite honestly a lot more I can go on about, but I'm pretty sure you get the picture.

Art actually does take a lot of talent, but it comes from the skill. No one just, gets the talent as soon as they start drawing. Such as me, I do my original artwork almost all the time, however, I mainly work on bases because it's more relaxing to me and not so stressful, because despite the limited creativity I am given, I still know exactly what I want to do, for I have a very clear picture of how I want the base to turn out.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I think you're straying away from the idea of 'art' yourself, and quite frankly, I can never find any respect for those who think that base art is just some "lazy" way of drawing when that's not the case.

This one base that I used from QuinnBases took me days to complete because of how much detail I wanted to put into this. It's not as good as the recent ones that I've posted, (and I honestly plan to remake this sometime in the future since I've actually improved, surprising right? Well people can improve in their use of bases too just so ya know.) but I still put a lot of effort and took my time with this because I've got a good grasp on MS Paint and how it generally works. Those who usually end up awful are generally those who've never used MS Paint before and are still learning. I would know, I've been there myself.

Plus, I know that there are several artists who have gotten very far in their artwork and they branched off using bases, and I know an artist who does both base work and original work.

So while you may sit here and think that using a base is some "lazy" tactic of creating art, you're so very mistaken. It actually takes me days hell, maybe even a month if I put it off to the side.

Much like how this took me a few days past my birthday to finish this.

This took me almost 4 hours because Akira's hair was such a pain in the ass.

This took me at least 2 and a half hours because of the amount of editing and fixing I had to do

And so much more.

But go off I guess

*First of all, if the message is read strangely, it is because I am using the translator to support what I mean*

And what if they definitely do not have that ability for more effort to do?

I do not think it fair that because they lack that ability, they have to stay with the desire to express what they have in mind. I do not dedicate myself to encourage future artists, I am not forcing anyone to use my bases, they are simply there to be used by someone who needs them, i'm not taking credit from the original artist either.
My passion is not art, I'm not going to dedicate my life to it, I just see this as a hobby. Maybe you're a real artist who needs to instruct other people, but I do not.
