Description This is the first tutorial I've ever made. Should apply to just about anything; dolls, stuffed animals... Hopefully it's clear enough.

The "pattern pieces" are general estimations of the shapes you'll be using, not exact. The skirt may or may not be wider, narrower, curved more, etc. The armholes are also something that you'll have to edit to work specifically with your plushie - you know, lengthen or shorten the straps, etc.

If anyone has any questions, just let me know.

What fabric do you reccomend?

Any lightweight woven fabric, really. It would not work with stretchy fabrics. I use fabric from the "keepsake calico" section at my local Joann Fabrics store, or similar fabrics.

Lunatic: Thanks! I really needed a way to dress my plushies without making them look like... Bad, to keep it simple. This will make mi sister and brother stop mocking my poor Alice plushie (here in DA, if you need proof)! Thanks!

I'm kind of confused... If the bottom of the shirt is 5 inches in length and you pull the skirt part to make it 5 inches, how does the whole skirt get sewn all around the bottom of the shirt?

quirkandbramble In reply to mahuirong [2010-01-03 05:34:02 +0000 UTC]

Are you confused by this: "if the bottom edge of the skirt measures 5inches, you want the top part of the skirt to be at least 10inches"?

The 10inches is referring to the length of the skirt before it's gathered.

quirkandbramble In reply to mahuirong [2010-01-03 05:31:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure I entirely understand your question.

The bottom hem of the shirt would be 5 inches long from back center to back center.

Your skirt piece would be gathered so that it's top hem measures 5 inches long from end to end.

You just sew them together; they're equal length.

Am I understanding your question correctly?

I appreciate you putting this tutorial up. I recently purchased a Hujoo ABS BJD, and she was sitting so sad and nekkid, that is, until I found this tutorial! Now she has a cute little peach dress until I can get the material for the poofier dress I wanted for her. Heck, this one's even growing on me; I may just make a better version of the one I made! [I'm rubbish with sewing...D:]

I REALLY wanted to make some new clothes for my new Pullip, Celsiy, but the only thing I've sewn was a pillow a VERY long time ago! This really helps spell everything else in a great way! ^_^

What fabric would you reccomend/not reccomend?

quirkandbramble In reply to SpAmSaLoT [2008-11-18 19:07:42 +0000 UTC]

The tutorial was written with "basic" woven cotton fabric in mind, but really you could do it with anything that's thin enough to be double-layered without being too bulky.
