I love the way the hair came out, it looks amazing.
You wouldn't be too bad off making some tutorials, y'know.

The process is somewhat subtle focusing on different aspects, like shape, color, shading, depth, lighting, refining, and finishing. Each one in a different part of the total shown here. Fascinating.

may I ask? how you smoothen the edges of the line art in step 4?

Thanks for responding me

Paradilis In reply to FreakyZi [2011-04-20 18:17:25 +0000 UTC]

usually just paint over it, in the same layer, or one on top of it.

How do you draw this artwork ?, i'm still didn't get it after the sketch. Do you have the tutor the steps to make similiar artwork ?, by the way i love this artwork and looks natural...

Oho! I love looking at your process pics~ And seeing the transition to finished product * u * I sometimes use them as a starting point on figuring out how to do my own pics *embarrassed laugh* ((and yes, I also do eyes laaaast. Because I think they bring the picture to life o u o))

She got rid of the harsh black lines and softened the shadows

look at the difference between the rocks and the fur thing around her waist.

KelsMcQuillen In reply to xYorutenshi [2011-04-20 20:38:06 +0000 UTC]

I see the differences, but I'm wondering how she took that step. I mean, if you use a certain program, she could have used a watercolor paint tool to soften and smudge or she could have used the smudge tool to soften it. Im just wondering what tool she used to get from the harshness to the softness.

why did you do the eyes last?
and im particularly amazed how you did the water and fire.. is it the same concept of base color+highlight/shadow blending?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Quirkilicious In reply to goyong [2011-04-19 23:17:51 +0000 UTC]

Not sure, sort of feels like a "finishing touch" I guess so I save it for last.
Yes and no on the water/fire. Since I have to worry about transparency and all I spend more time playing with layer types.

goyong In reply to Quirkilicious [2011-04-20 02:05:18 +0000 UTC]

haha i thought you did it because you wanted to know what eye expression would fit best in the end.but i think i was thinking too much. hehe

oh so layer types to achieve the elemental effects... now i see. thanks

Eternal-True-Spirit [2011-04-19 22:12:02 +0000 UTC]

Could you maybe make this into a tutorial? Explain what you did in the steps - I particularly like how you blended the shadows/highlights/base colours together, I was wondering how you did that? I usually just use blur or smudge, but the effect doesn't always look great.

Love how you created the water and fire

Quirkilicious In reply to Eternal-True-Spirit [2011-04-19 23:20:44 +0000 UTC]

I use openCanvas and the watercolor tool to "paint" pretty much everything and a lot of it blends together that way for me. If not I'll use the blend tool every now and then.

If you're using Photoshop, it's just a brush with the hardness lowered. Same concept on any other program.
