The way Megatron got defeated in TFA was a very unfair fight. Optimus was in good shape and he had the Magnus Hammer, a jet pack, his axe, AND a grappler hook, while Megatron was severely damaged and all he had was his fusion cannon. Even then, he put up a fight. If the fight had been fair, I think Megatron would have won because in TFA he can wipe the floor with pretty much anybody.
