The right one (the arrow) is for men, the left one (the "strike" arrow) is a transgender symbol and lower one is for women. (:

I thought 'lesbo' wasn't an insult, i thought it was kinda like a normal nickname, & so is 'butch'.
tho i never heard anyone calling a homosexual 'poof' btw

Its an old one, say it puff, the sting has gone out of it these days tbh, at least thats what i THINK anyway. Personally iv never heard duke used... and i always thought pansy just meant wimp.. i will carry on calling people a pansy though. I know im not intending to hurt anyone!

Chocoreaper In reply to AGhostsShadow [2011-02-23 01:58:05 +0000 UTC]
ahh i see...
not 'duke' but 'dyke'. dyke's used to call the man-lesbians in an offensive way.
& i thought pansy is a flower but yeah, calling ppl pansy means theyre wimps (but in a way they also mean girly men)

I thought it said "Duke" too, the y is just hidden, it really says "Dyke." Pansy, at least in America, is the same thing as calling a gay man a "limp wrist," it's used to feminize a man. You're free to call anyone what you want, but I guess that's just like everyone else who feels the same way about "gay," they continue to use it because they don't care/understand how other people feel about it when they use a label of someone else to call random things stupid.

I can understand that, i can see why people would dislike it; and people have different tolerances too. I depends on context too, if it is used to cause harm, then it is wrong altogether, then it depnds like i said on the person themselves. Its all a choice thing. Besides im not homophobic, when i say pansy, as i said to the other guy, im thinking a limp flower, but i mean wimp as a generic term, and if i offend anyone by using it, i would explain and of course apologize. Its all about choice, you can choose to be a jerk about something or not, you can be offended by something or you dont. Tough issue..

I just think that there are obvious words that could be stated in place of something that could be offensive. If you want to call someone a wimp, call them a wimp, you know? Saying something is "so gay" doesn't translate into something being stupid to me, it translates into "this item/theme/thing is equal to my dislike of homosexuals." Or "I find homosexuality repulsive, just like this item/theme/thing." I'm not choosing to be offended by the statement, I just am. I don't tell people to shut up though, I know there's no point in it. People are going to say what they want to say and justify it however they can to make it seem okay.

Personally, i think you are thinking too much about what is being said. I can see your point of view, but it is like you are expecting what is said to be hateful. Some of the time it is, cant deny that, but these people are often quite stupid people and always narrow-minded. But the other kind of people arent saying the phrase "gay" to be malicious. It's like blonde people being upset by the phrase "blonde moment", or epileptics being offended by the phrase "brain-storm". Just because they happen to be using a phrase that is often a hot topic, doesnt necessarily mean that they are being offensive. They probably dont even realise it is offending anyone, just irritating them bcause it makes them sound about 12, but not actually upsetting and angering people. My friend still does it, and its definitely an irritating habit, but just because she needs a thesaurus, not because shes upsetting people. The word, and it is just a word, gay doesnt always mean homosexuality anymore, just like it didnt always mean homosexuality before that. Languages and cultures change, it is more an expression of general distaste, than repulsion towards homosexuality anymore.
And i dont think you should tell them to shut up, i think thats a waste of time, but just say "i dont like it when you say that". Afterwards, they will know, if they try to wind you up and you let them.. well you let yourself get wore up about it, you could just dismiss it as idiocy. You cant force someone to stop using a word because you dont like it, and often these people will grow out of it anyway.

I already said that I don't tell people to shut up, I know it's a waste of time. I also know that the term hasn't always meant homosexual, and that the phrase has changed with time. It has changed into something meaning stupid/bad/distasteful though--because of what the original term was changed into (homosexual-gay). Words/phrases morph with time, I'm not saying it doesn't.
I'm simply saying that, in my personal opinion, that if you're not ignorant or acting stupid for the sake of fitting in ("you" being the general population, I'm not attacking you ) then don't say the phrase.

The typography is mildly eye-catching, and the work communicates a valid point, but is really Daily Deviation material? Why lower standards when the message is politically correct? Is this art or propaganda, and when does exuberant praise become hypocritical overpraise?

LOL. I don't think it's a conspiracy, just the logical conclusion of a decades-old notion that aesthetics is nothing more than a mask for politics, so expressing the correct politics is inherently more sublime than artistic mastery.
