Description I never thought that this painting would ever get done, let alone turn out ok. I did this piece for a project in my class where we take a black and white picture (of my own) and painted alternating temperatures of colors matching up with the values, working darkest to lightest. It was way too complicated for my level of skill, but the end result seems to work. For the texture of the background I used a pallette knife. Acrylic on canvas board.

[edit, 10-12-06] I went back and did a reshoot of this painting keeping in mind distortion and glare. I'll be redoing others as well in the near future.

the work you put into the lighting really shows, also love your selection of colors. If i had to nitpick i'd prolly say somethin about the railroad-x'ing(spacing of the letters I think). Doesn't really detract from the piece at all though

I especially like the small details; the notches and holes on the bottom right bar; cross-hatching on the lights, etc...

keep it up

Yeah, the lettering was a bit too much for me to handle, but I was pretty happy with the rest. Thanks for your opinions. It's not often I get honest critiques.

why the hell would you want to learn how to paint in ps when you've got such a strong handle on traditional?

this is fantastic.

I'm wanting to learn more about PS so I can help my photographs be all that they can be. I'm interested in all kinds of mediums because they all have different strengths. In the case of photography vs. painting, taking pictures is about "capturing" and the "perception" of an image, while painting seems to be about "creating" one. It's all good!

Great use of colour-- very hip. An excellent choice of subject and angle as well. I might suggest a better photograph, one without glare, (yeah, like I'M one to talk about taking good photos ), but once you get that taken care of? I can definitely see people wanting prints of this beauty.

This is quite good. Very interesting perspective too.
